Hi yalls, first time notebook owner here. Just bought a DV8330US - very happy with it so far.
I'd like to upgrade to 2G of RAM but I have never upgraded a notebook before. Can you guys recommend any 2G Ram modules from http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?majorcatid=101&minorcatid=105 ? (because they have good prices and a physical store in my area)
Should I get 2G and replace the existing 1G? or keep the default 1G and simply add 1G. I've been reading that the default RAM is usually not as good as custom RAM.
The specs on my notebook are (a stock DV8330US):
Core Duo 1.73Ghz
PC5300, DDR2 SDRAM, 2 x 512MB 667MHz
Nvidia 7600 Go
17"
Thanks Y'alls!

newegg.com is a great option to look for the RAM modules. Since you have a version of the Core Duo with the FSB at 533, PC4200 is what you are looking for, and that is pretty cheap to get two 1GB sticks. Good companies are Corsair, OCZ, Gskill, Patriot, Mushkin, and also Kingston. I like Corsair, and have had no problems with them at all.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
step 1: find where the ram is located and open that section of the laptop.
step 2:
if there are 2 sticks in there, and no available slots, you will need to remove those and add 2 x 1 gig sticks
if there are 2 sticks in there, and 2 available slots, you can keep those and add 2 x 512 meg sticks
if there is 1 stick and 1 available slot, you will need to check the model number of the first stick and add a second 1 gig stick of the same model*
*I suspect this based on your link
keep consistency of model numbers in any pair of ram you add, because a pair (2 sticks) will function as one unit and double your bandwidth
boring tech stuff, but its true. and if you add a 1 gig stick as i suspect, it will be much more beneficial to add a 1 gig stick of the same model than it would be to add a "custom" 1 gig stick of high speed low latency ram -
awesome, thanks guys! I'll check the model numbers/slot configuration of my notebook before I proceed. YEA!

There's not a chance that you have 4 slots...you have only two so they are probably occupied.
DDR2-800 is risky, I would not be the first to test it..
The same goes for all 2gb chips. Those will be mainstream with the 4gb notebooks, yours can only take 2gb. The best is to take 2x1gb.
You should go for 667mhz RAM.
Edit: dv8000t might be able to handle 4gb, on a second thought...I haven't seen it, nor heard of but the chipset should be able to support 4gb. Utilizing 4gb RAM with 32bit processor is another story, however... -
