    Hi there,

i just bought an nc8430. Now im just searching for a good way to extend my battery life. While doing the searching process i found a high capcity akku with offers 12 cell. I did not found any information on the runtime. I also have searched the forums. Also i found two different versions of the akku, one for about 119€ and about 199€. The pricy one is the EJ092AA and the cheaper one
HP (PB993A). The EJ092AA seems to be the right one. Can anyone tell me something about the real runtimes with activated wlan? I heard rumors about 9 hours, that would be fanatastic. Also the weith seemse toe be an interesting factor.

    Thanks in advance Galam

Both are the right batteries. They vary in capacity and shape just a little bit, but both are secondary batteries for the nc8430.

PB993A is the HP Travel Battery
EJ092AA is the HP Ultra Capacity Battery

HP claims the nc8430 will have 4 hours of battery life...I get three on moderate usage. So here's my estimate (multiply claimed by 0.75)

    nc8430 (Primary Battery Only) - Claimed 4.0, Gets 3.0
    nc8430 (Primary + Travel Batt) - Claimed 7.5, Probably Gets ~5.5-5.75
    nc8430 (Primary + Ultra Batt) - Claimed 10.0, Probably Gets ~7.5

Also, for your reading pleasure... HP Tech Specs on the batteries

Thanks for your quick response. So im right guessing that the second akku extends the first, so its about 1-2kg heavier. So i get about 4h with the standard akku; i got the 'old' 2ghz core duo. Sounds like i will get the bigger one.

One short side question: I cannot upgrade to a core 2 duo without losing my garanty?

Nope...HP techs are the only people who can do that and still leave the warranty intact. Personally, the upgrade isn't worth it unless you absolutely need a program that is 64-bit ONLY. At this point Vista doesn't count since there are equivalent 32-bit versions for all Vista versions.

I am also of the opinion that by the time 64-bit ness is a requirement in computing both our nc8430s will be old and showing their age...by then we'll probably need a new computer anyway.
