How do I know whether HP really gave me the high capacity battery? Is there an easy way to check like a serial number/product number on the battery?

How many mAh or wH is the battery rated at?

My HP notebook has "8-cell" printed right on it, but it also says 68wH.

By P/N number. Type it into fields at partsurfer.hp.com - capacity should be also shown there.
Or have a look at the Wh - that's easier way (however, I have already seen batteries that had their capacity different from the value on the sticker):

I just ran a battery life test. I got nearly 3 hours (2:54 min) on my dv2500t with the high capacity battery. This was doing basic web browsing, email, and Open Office functions.

    Here are my system specs...
    Intel Core 2 Duo 7300 2.0 GHz
    2048MB RAM
    nVidia 8400M GS
    80GB 5400rpm HD

Are people getting similar battery times?

Just pull out the battery, have a look at the part number and Wh capacity and post both values (P/N and capacity in Wh) here.

There are 2 high-capacity batteries - one of them is the 12-cell one with capacity of 88Wh, the other is 6-cell one with about 47Wh capacity. Basic battery has 43Wh (at least in case of dv60xx-dv64xx).

Is there any other P/N on the battery (such as "replace with") and/or some data in mAh/Ah?
Or is there some P/N from following list?
    451864-001
    446507-001
    446506-001

Why is the battery life so bad for the dv2500t?
Not even 3 hrs of normal use!

    It says replace with 441611-001.

There is not any data in mAh/Ah

Well I shouldn't say that was completely normal use. I did play Flight Simulator 2004 for about 10 mins and that REALLY drained some power.

Great, that "replace with" helped - you have the high-capacity 6cell battery with 55Wh capacity.

If you'd like to have the best battery (12cell 95Wh, 452056-001), you'd have to buy one and it would lift the back of the laptop as it is much larger than the one you have now.

    EDIT:
Just not to forget - the basic battery should have 43Wh capacity.

CeCo is indeed correct, you can go to hp.com to see photo's comparing the slant of the Laptop with the larger capacity battery.

I was really considering a larger battery until I saw the photo of how the Laptop is slanted with the larger battery.

But then again some people prefer that angle for typing, it is all in user preference.

Yeah, I really want my laptop to be as sleek/light as possible but still powerful. I will take more sleek over more battery. But as Hackez said, it's just my preference.

    bgh I agree, that's why I got the hi-cap 6-cell batt.

Plus, 55/43 = 1.28, which means it holds *28%* more charge than the standard, so the estimates of "16%" more capacity are quite off, or am I doing something wrong?
