Five days ago, I bought a new notebook, a HP Pavilion dv7-3065dx, everything was going ok, no problems at all, opened the box, charged the battery, formatted with a fresh Win7 installation. No problems so far. However, since the second day of having it, I began to notice an annoying high-pitched noise coming from the top-left area of the notebook.

The noise is not continous, it mostly appears only when I hover over the items in the start or context menus, and other selectable items as well, such as the minimize/maximize/close buttons of the windows. It is also audible when Windows is in the "Please wait... Booting up..." screen and when minimizing/maximizing windows.

Any advice? Has anyone else have this problem too?

    Thanks in advance.

Buzzing coils in the graphics card. It's starting to get more and more common, guess manufacturing quality has gone down lately. It won't break, but if you are annoyed by the noise you can send it back.

Yeah, I suspected it was the graphics card too. I installed Ubuntu, and I was pleased to hear no noise at all, however, the dreaded noise came back when I installed the linux drivers for the ATI card...

Is there any workaround for this without having to send it back to HP/Best Buy?

    Thanks.

The workaround involves losing your warranty, which i'm not too sure you want to do.

Oh I see. Well, then I guess it is going back to Best Buy tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for your help.
