I have had my hdx16 for a little over a year. And recently these horizontal lines are running through the screen. ( fast movement and multicolored, the page is kind of going up/down). What might be the problem. I am not a pro, actually I know very little about these kind of things. Another day a message appeared on the screen that the nividia display driver has crashed and then recovered. Anyone has any idea what is wrong with the comp.
    HELP please......

It sounds like it's either the display cable that runs from your motherboard to the display panel, or the graphics processing unit may be failing.

    Yes, definitely a hardware problem.

It happens at least once a day. when I see the lines, I move the computer genltly and then most of the times they (the lines) disappear. Either way the laptop needs to be repaired? any idea how much that would cost?

You can replace the cable yourself if you are handy. It requires some disassembly of the notebook. Part number for the cable is 497936-001. The cable will cost you $30-45.

Not sure how much a repair place would charge you to do the work. Probably $100.

anyway, see page 4-31 and on to get an idea of what is involved.

If it goes away when you move the notebook or the lid I can say without a doubt that it's most likely the display cable. The information from 2.0 will get you back up and running :)
