Well i installed the newest drivers, and successfully did the bios patch, but things have not been good.

I have gotten two CCC crashes, and now when I run 3dmark vantage I get a score of only 500... which is a definite problem.

Here is the software section of my CCC:

    Driver Packaging Version 8.83.6.2-110412a-117442C-HP
    Catalyst Version 11.7
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1134
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
    Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0817
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10600
    Catalyst Control Center Version 2011.0707.2346.40825

    Can someone help me?

    Several things to double check.
A). Make sure your power plan is high performance
B). Be plugged into power outlet
C). Make sure the Radeon 6770m in enabled. If it is, toggle to the Intel and Back once to see if that helps
D). Check that coolsense is on performance

I believe it is catalyst 11.7 conflicting with the new bios...

I had several problems using it after I updated the bios... When I backed down to stock drivers with 11.5b hotfix, everything worked great again.

I did everything you recommended con247, and still terrible fps/score.

Can you explain what you did BeaverRat? I know how to back to stock drivers, but where is the 11.5b hotfix?

    Thanks.

Did you do a clean Win7 install?

Yes, I also installed 11.8 beta, and still terrible score (I tried 3dmark11 and got 253)

That makes sense. My friend had to do a clean install (he screwed up his computer and his recovery partition didn't work either) and his performance isn't as good. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Well it was working fine before the new bios. Is his performance as bad as mine?

I don't know. I haven't run 3DMark on his. He just had major jaw surgery so when I went to visit him he had me update it for him.

I just did a complete uninstall of ATI drivers, and reinstalled the stock ones on the HP site... Just got a 583 on the vantage test...

Is there some way to find out what is going on?

    EDIT:

haha also I just changed to the intel card, and on the intel I get 1713. is going on...

Ok, use ATI Install Manager to get rid of all of the AMD drivers on the laptop. Then, download this and install the original drivers (DV6T QE 64bit):

AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP Pavilion dv6t-6100 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Then, after that completes, install this right over the top (don't uninstall anything).

    AMD Catalyst? 11.5b hotfix

    It didn't help.

I uninstalled using the "ATI Catalyst Install Manager" in Control Panel.

Then I ran Driver Sweeper, and cleaned all traces of AMD drivers. Then I restarted.

Then I ran the file that you provided first, and then I installed the 11.5b hotfix, and then I restarted the computer.

And I am still only getting 646 on 3dmark vantage.

How do games run with the driver setup I outlined? Do they appear to be running properly on the dedicated card? You can definitely tell when the dedicated card is in use...

Also, what version of the AMD graphics driver are you using (in device manager/6770m properties)?

You could try a clean minimal install. Maybe your drivers are really messed up.

Just a few thoughts. Perhaps the bios update didn't take properly. Have you thought of reflashing???

With that said...now that you have the latest bios and manual switching is back...you can also overclock. Go to MSI and download "Afterburner"

    MSI Afterburner

Install it and open it up and get it running. Because we have Mobility cards, the .ini file has to be modded to recognize the card. You will not be able to effect fan speed, but you CAN overclock your AMD card or even clock it to normal speeds and run 3D Vantage again...Read the instructions here:

HOW TO: Enable UNOFFICIAL overclocking mode in MSI AfterBurner - Guru3D.com Forums

Many on the Envy board have used this to clock the 6850 to normal speeds that AMD set forth. Seems that HP underclocks the card by almost 100 MHZ.

Try setting Afterburner to the normal speeds of your card and see if your Vantage scores improve. If not, I suggest reflashing the bios and trying again. It just seems like your card isn't clocking up to do 3D...the scores you report are something like they would be if your card were clocked for 2D mode...very odd!

Thanks Bobmitch, repped, that's the kind of reply that I was looking for.

I wish it was easier to tell when things are working properly without having to benchmark.

Anyways I decided to follow mikecc6's advice and reformat, (I'll be doing a clean install instead of a minimal image). We'll see what happens after the format.

More than glad to help. Even after the clean install...I do recommend MSI Afterburner. Use it on my desktop Nvidia GTX580 and it is incredible. Mind you it does work to increase fan speeds to decrease heat on desktops...but it will help you go tell if your mobility card is clocking properly.

Good luck with the clean install...never fun, but results are usually pretty positive...

Yep, I just got 6318 now in Vantage.

This is on the basic HP drivers too, gonna see what I can get with updated drivers and maybe an OC.

    Hello,
Glad you got it working... I think I just found a pretty stable overclock using MSI Afterburner. It is 820/950. It yeilds about a 7FPS increase in most games. Pretty substantial actually.

I have tested all of the Catalyst Control Center versions and the best performing I have found to be is the 11.5b hotfix (installed right over stock drivers). This will update your GPU driver to 8.850.6.0 and it will update the CCC to 2011-0525 (11.5b).

    Good luck

Try to use Amd System Monitor or MSI Afterburner and monitor those Core and Mem clocks while u gaming. Does it stay at 100/150?

I'm posting this because I'm sure it will probably help someone sometime. I figured out why I had such bad scores, in fact this was the next thing on my mind to test before I reformatted but I kinda wanted format anyway, and that was a surefire solution.

If you uncheck the checkbox in both "PowerPlay" and "Switchable Graphics", in your CCC you'll cripple your card. I assume that the reason why uninstalling drivers didn't work for me was because its nearly impossible to completely rid your system of ATI drivers.

Well you can always turn it back on and you're fine. The way I found out was I turned mine off, and then i was getting ty results and instead of formatting for a 3rd time, I backtraced my steps to figure out what settings caused the problem. I turned them back on and all is good now.

Not sure this will mess up everybody, but if you are having problems like I was then its worth it to check.
