I was just curious how long some of you have had your dv6000's. I'm really attracted to the computer but longevity is a big concern for me and I wanna be confident that it won't crap out after 6 months or somethin.
-
by the end of this month, my dv6000t will be 1 year old.
no hardware issues at all, runs very well. And I'm using Vista.
I do play games on it a lot, some of them are pretty graphics intense, haven't got any BSOD or crashes due to overheating or anything like that.
so there you go...
p.s. I just peeled off the protective wrap on the top (back of screen), so no scratches at all... just like new... hehe... -
well ive had my dv9500t for a whopping 4 months now
-
Just got my dv6700t in a few days ago, and runs like new lol
I am hoping that this computer will last me a good 4-7 years.
-
I've had my dv6000z since November 2006, and so far it's been great.
-
-
I have had my dv6775us for 6 hours. I have already removed the protective wrap...lol.

DV6408nr since September 2007.
Downgraded to WinXP from Vista Home Premium. Zippy. -
I've had mine since October. At the beginning of January, for 2 nights, the fan made a couple of noises like fans do when they get to the point where they are going to die.
But not too long after that I took a new can of compressed air, blew out a massive amount of dust, and its been fine ever since.
I upgraded to Windows XP from Vista Home Premium and it's been incredibly fast. No bluescreens, no hardware issues, no heating issues, nothing.
Of course, this is coming from two other HPs that failed. A dv5030us that had motherboard issues from the start and HP wouldn't touch it until it failed. Then a dv6345us that also had motherboard issues, though different.
Now this one. A dv6500t "CTO".
Now that HP's case management team has improved (seems theres actually native English speakers there now! and they actually answer the phone!) and it seems the build quality for the custom systems is significantly better than the ones meant for retail, I'd actually buy an HP system again. I wouldn't mind the dv9700t, really. But I know this system now, pending any hardware failures, should last for several years so I don't need to waste the money on a dv9700t that I only want and don't "need". -
ive had mine for like 5 or so months.the only thing is the space bar has worn away abit and now in one spot it looks like a grease spot lol.id sell it for that purpose only, but ill keep it.its good machine.

I bought a dv6000z 1 year 4 months ago. The problems I've had with the laptop have been:
Wireless card (they had to replace the motherboard and the card)
Power Supply.
I bought the computer with XP Media Center and other than the two problems above, the computer has worked great. My brother uses the laptop now because I got one from work, but I still love the laptop when I use it and will buy another HP in the future.
If you want the laptop to last you a long time get the best parts you can. Don't scrimp on the processor and the video card, because you can't replace the video card and the CPU is very hard to replace if you don't know what you are doing. The RAM is easy to replace, and so is the HDD. Since Vista is the only OS you can get, you need at least 2GB of RAM, but I would recommend 3GB if you aren't going with a 64-bit OS. If you decide to go with a 64-bit OS, purchase the RAM aftermarket, because it will only cost you $100 or so for 4GB of RAM through www.newegg.com. -
DV6000z since August 07

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Getting my DV6500t (Special Edition) tomorrow via Trade. Should be a nice 'upgrade'.
-
Had mine for 8 months almost 9. It's been very good to me although it's died on me once and I had to send it in. Just a question here, does anyone's hard drive heat up to the point where it burns your hand? It's located above the left palm rest next to the touchpad. I'm sure my problem isn't unique. Anyone have this same problem?
-

I guess looking for a HDD that runs cooler is the answer, but that means I would have reinstall vista and everything again.
