Is this thing a pain to carry around daily, on campus? And is it too unwieldy? I have to buy a laptop for a cousin, and can't get him convinced on anything but a pavillion (guess he has fallen for the looks)... The dv6000t's a good size, but the Go7400's too weak.

ive got a dv9000t and while it is a 17" laptop, it is quite light and thin for its size. it weighs about 3.5-4kgs and you do get used to carrying it around.

Have you had any major issues/ hassles with it? And is the screen too big for comfort? I prefer 15.4" , but if a 17" is comfortable, and noot too heavy, then I guess it'd be better, since I wouldn't be using it anyway...

havent had any real hassles and i used to have a 15.4 myself. the screen is fine, in fact when i first used it i was surprised it was a 17" cuz it looked smaller (but i measured it so it is lol) and well if carrying 3.5kgs isnt too much for you then i dont see where there wud be a problem

Thanks for all the replies. One last question. How well does it game at native resolution? Far cry, FEAR, NFS MW etc? I am guessing it wouldn't be too bad.... My X1700 gets along decently with a WSXGA+ screen.

depends on the settings really, I run farcry and NFS MW on high settings and prefer using 1024x768 to get the better FPS. havent tried FEAR on it yet

I got it for my cousin as well who will be getting it shortly since she's in Singapore. I don't think it's too big but I'm comparing that to my e1705. The screen is very nice (1440x900) and the reflective/glare does not affect me. She'll be using it mainly for school and light gaming. Though she might tote this around, it will mostly stay in her house. Games played well on native resolution and I've played D3, Sim (hers) and Ghost Recon and they have perform nicely. I would recommend bumping the ram from 1gb to 2gb - the extra HD space, HDMI output, number keypad and remote are all quality features as well.

Regarding the size, one thing worth mentioning is that the dimensions specs listed by HP (and most of the resellers) are wrong. The length usually shows 15.1", it is in fact 15.6". This may make a difference when choosing a bag, as not all 17" bags will accomodate that length.

It is fairly sleek for a 17" laptop, and the weight isn't much more than most 15.4" laptops. The power brick is compact and light too.
