Please excuse me if this has been asked and anwered, but I am unable to type any of the "blue" characters (cent sign, fractions, etc) on my keyboard.

HP's support has told me to use "fn" plus the key (e.g. fn-4 for the cent sign) but that does not work. The "fn" key physically works, because I can access the second functions (open IE, etc) on the regular function keys using it.

HP's latest suggestion (after telling me I need to mail it away, then saying I don't) is to use fn-numlock plus the key of choice. No luck with that either.

If I switch to a multi-lingual keyboard setting some of the blue characters become available, such as accented E's.

Any suggestions? Have I missed a setting somewhere that is disabling these symbols? My k/b is currently set to "English (Canada) - US".
