    Well, how can I magic an 8600M GT into the dv6500t notebook? Seriously, I'll buy one RIGHT NOW if I can find out how to get that as an option.

    Well unless you attend Hogwarts and know magic, you won't get that in there. It just won't fit, nor can you take out the old card.

    If you want the 8600GT, your only choice, at least in the HP lineup is the 9500.

    There is only a 8600m GS inside of the DV9500t and it is soldered onto the motherboard like most other laptop GPUs.

    There are already 14" notebooks with the 8600M GT, so it should fit into the 15" dv6500t.

    To do so, you will need to buy a dv6500t and another laptop with the 8600M GT. Follow these instructions:

    Step 1 - Open up both computers, and remove the GPU chips. You may need the following
    * Electrical diagrams for both motherboards.
    * Soldering iron (25 W or 30 W, don’t use one above this power spec)
    * Solder
    * Desolder pump (a.k.a. solder sucker)
    * Cleaning cloth
    * Cleaning sponge
    * Small flat-tip screwdriver
    * Isopropilic Alcohol (Isopropanol), do not use regular alcohol
    * Toothbrush

    Step 2 - Solder the 8600M GT into your dv6500t

    Step 3 - Rewrite your BIOS to accept the new chip.

    I'm no electrical engineer, but you may also have to deal with the addtional power requirements of the 8600M GT

    I just feel it's such a shame that HP doesn't offer a decent graphics option in a laptop that could so easily become a gaming platform. Beautiful laptop.

    No offense, but I said it doesn't fit for a reason. That's because the 6500 doesn't have a slot to put that card in. So unless you plan on physically modyfing the motherboard, you can't just solder any card you want on there.

    That mobo has a limitation on the card it can take, so just cramming any other card in there won't work.

    Also, you can't just take any 8600GT out there. You have to get one from HP made for HPs. The best you can do is take an 8600GS from the 9500 series and somehow cram it in the 6500, which I still think is impossible.

    But buying a 8600GT and putting it in there won't work. Laptop manufacturers make their machines so that only their hardware will work. So unless HP makes a 8600GT version for the dv 6500/9500 line, then you're out of luck.

    I am very calm, and no I didn't think it was a joke.

    Even if it was, it would be a very bad one. Someone out there might actually go out and take their notebook apart, and try to solder a part that will never fit and completely ruin their machine.

    I certainly hope it was a joke, but I think you're right adinu... he sounded pretty serious lol!

    lol... where to begin... man, if only life was that simple..
    I don't know too much about how GPUs are desgined but I think that's pretty much like saying you can chop off the wings and turbine engines of a 747 and then go and weld them to a little 172 Skyhawk and go cruising around at 33,000 feet. :p

    if you actually read it, you would have known it was a joke, it asked for a toothbrush, come on. and then rewrite bios to accept new card haha

    Hey, I can totally see using a toothbrush to clean off small electronic components/circuit boards. (Obviously this is an unused toothbrush we're talking about here) What's so funny about that?

    LOL nice! Did you make that? if so, nice editing hehe :)
    Except you forgot the wings of the 747 :p

    I kind of wonder why HP didn't bother designing a dv6500t with an 8600M?

    It kind of seems like an odd business move, especially when Dell (their main competitor) is offering 8600M's in their rival 15.4"ers. The lack of an 8600M is the only drawback to the dv6500t IMO (except maybe for the low screen resolution).

    We've been over this a thousand times. It's doubtful that the chassis can withstand the heat/size requirements.

    Hmm that makes sense, especially when you consider how much bulkier the 1520's/Vostro 1500's are. Too bad they didn't at least offer a better model of the 8400M
