Would it be faster for me to transfer my files from my old hard drive by placing it in one of the bays and transferring it from one to the other? I would imagine that would be much faster than USB.

If there are under 1GB of files size wise and less than 1000 or so number wise, I'd just use USB.

Otherwise, if you're using an Envy 14 (15 / 17 as well?) with the eSATA port, you might want to grab an eSATA enclosure, it's much faster.

What about those cables that allow you to connect computers? How fast are they?

I guess I could also transfer the files to one of my externals now and then transfer again when my laptop, Envy 17, arrives, but that seems like a waste of time.

While we're on this question, what do you use as a backup device?
