I have just ordered my first laptop (HP dv1000t).

I intentionally got only 256k memory. Independently I ordered 1gb to add. It was about 1/2 HP's price.

My question: what is involved in opening the laptop. I have built a number of desktops so I really not too concerned. But I can't find anything on HP's site on how to add memory. Is there anything I should watch out for? Am I compromising my warranty? (that would tick me off for just adding memory).

    Any advise would be helpful

    Thanks

Upgrading RAM is pretty straight forward. It should just involve removing the panel covering the RAM slot and placing the RAM in the slot. The dv1000t since it shares the same chassis as the dv1000 should have both slots user accessible and therefore should not void any warranty.

The only time the warranty might be inquestion of being voided is if the RAM slot is located beneath the keyboard or in such places which might be difficult to acess by the common user.
