I just bought the HP zv5410 with the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ processor. What do i have to do to get the processor running at the 1.8ghz speed?? Thanks in advance.

Set your power option to home/office! and isn't 3000xp only at 1.6Ghz, or am i wrong...

That's not working. That setting only brings it to 701mhz. Any other ideas??

What software are you using to monitor your CPU speed?
I'm not 100% sure but AMD notebook chips have a PowerNow! feature which slows down the CPU speed to conserve the battery when idle.
My old HP Pavillion has the Intel chip with SpeedStep I think it's called. When it's doing nothing (idle) the speed drops to half. Once I run a large application like word or something like it, the speed doubles to it's designed value.

And this is important....b e c a u s e?
Is there something wrong with it's performance in some way?
Your notebook processor was never intended to run at FULL THROTTLE POWER SPEED FASTTER continuously. The '1.8GHZzzz!!!' is mostly just marketing hype. Most applications will never need or make use of it. []

I think what he's tryin to tell you is... The powernow feature in AMD processors will only run at thier full speed when thier is a need for it. If your just sitting Idle, you don't need all your processors speed and powernow cuts it down (I thought this only happens in battery mode though) Try clicking on system on your control pannel and see what it shows, then close system and open it again. My ze4315us would show like 800MHz, then I would close system and open it again and it would show the full 1.53GHz.

Use MobileMeter to monitor your CPU speed. WinXP's speed report is broken.
If PowerNOW! is enabled as it should be (Power Scheme set to Portable/Laptop), you'll run 800MHz most of the time and jump up to 1.8GHz as needed (the Athlon XP-M 3000+ is 1.6GHz, the Athlon 64 3000+ is 1.8GHz). MobileMeter will graph that behavior over time. You could run at full speed 24x7, you'd just waste electricity.
Some people have reported that they've had to install the AMD Athlon 64 processor driver from amd.com to get PowerNOW! to work correctly. If you truly are stuck at 800MHz, try that. By rights it should have already been installed by HP though.Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015 -
My v2000 has Pentium - M, 1.7 ghz
The mobilemeter always shows 1.7 ghz constantly and temp 60 -64 centrigrade, when the fan kicks in.

Thanks for all the input from everyone on this issue....I've been travelling so haven't been able to post.
I tried getting mobile meter by clicking on the link, but I'm not sure what you have to do to get it running.
I also went to that other website link mentioned where this issue was also being discussed, and it looks like this might be a bit harder to fix than expected. If anyone else has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. If I wanted an 800mhz computer, I would have went on ebay and found an old one for a tenth of the price of this one! -
Click here to download the MobileMeter software http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/release/0310/mm0310.zip
Open the zip file and extract the two files to a directory of your C: drive like c:MobMeter
Run the program mobmeter.exe and it will start and on the top it will show your the frequency / CPU speed. If it still shows only half speed, right click on it and choose Always on top. Then start a big application and see what the speed does.
How do I get the full 1.8ghz out of my processor??
