I just bought Compaq Presario R3000z. It's a great notebook. Except...I ordered 12 cell battery pack with my notebook hoping that will give some boost on battery life. But, even if I turn WIFI off, my notebook lasts a little over 2 hours on battery. I thought that's for standard 8 cell battery for R3000z notebooks which has mobile Athlon64.

Also, I do not have AMD PowerNow installed. Does it mean that CPU is running at full speed all the time?

Someone mentioned that R3000z uses nForce3 chipset; should I download latest nForce3 driver?

THAT IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION.

I have the R3000T and I ordered it with the 8 cell battery. I barely get two hours of charge and like you, I am always on wifi when my laptop is on. I took the battery out and I don't see any label that say 8 cells or 12 cells. It does have the marking of 14.8V 4.4Ahr buy I don't know what that means. Have you tried contacting Support and asking them?

Here's a list of the battery P/N's used in some of the R3000 series notebooks. Check for the SP or Spare Part Number listed on the battery itself. See if the numbers below match your battery, if so, that's the type you have.

    346970-001 - 14.8V battery pack - 2.2Ahr, 8-cell
    346971-001 - 14.8V battery pack - 2.0Ahr, 12-cell
    350836-001 - 14.8V battery pack - 2.2Ahr, 12-cell

I checked mine and it was indid 346971-001 which is 12 cell. BTW what does 2.0Ahr mean? 350836-001 has 2.2Ahr and 12 cell... Anyhow, it's a bit disappointing battery life to me.

Thank you, Venombite for the info.

I may try to guess that it is Ampere-hours, that is, your battery with 2.0Ahr can generate 1 Amp current for 2 hours, and then the current will start fading away.

    Quikster,

The above part numbers were pulled from the HP site and I'm pretty confident the descriptions are correct. If the P/N's do match, is it possible you have the 2.0Ahr model?

No I took the battery out and read it right off the battery while I had it plugged into the wall.

I can take a digi pic if you want.

Quikster, a picture shouldn't be necessary. It could be possible the HP site put the wrong description on their site, but that'll be pretty poor quality control on their website. Possibly they changed the specs for their batteries and didn't update their site. I guess the main thing is that you got the battery that you ordered and didn't get ripped off.
