Hello,
Sorry if this is a really newb question but I just got a new HP laptop with Vista, a first on both account for me.
I watch movies frequently using my laptop and my LCD TV, using the vga port. On my old Acer (which had XP), which I just got rid of, it was as simple as hitting a pre-programmed "acer" laptop button which brought up display settings. From there one button gave me the option to switch to the external monitor.
Is there a quick and simple way to do with with my HP laptop, maybe put a quick link on the desktop?
Thanks in advance.

I just plug mine in and it asks me if I want to dual monitor it or just show on the LCD.

Have you done Fn + F8?

You probably have a hotkey on the keyboard, for example, on my Dell I press Fn+F8 and it toggles between the internal display, external display, and both.

on mine... it's Fn + F4
How do I quickly switch to an external LCD with my new HP with Vista?
