Hey guys,
I recently switched from a Dell XPS m1530 to an HP Envy 15.
One thing I've noticed that I'm unable to do anymore is charge my Android phone while my computer is sleeping. I used to be able to pull out my laptop and, without opening it, plug my phone to USB and it would start charging (I think it even worked in hibernate).
With the new Envy, though, I'm not able to do that. In sleep or hibernate, my phone won't charge or connect.
Is there something I can change that would keep the USB port powered while the laptop is sleeping
Thank you and I'd appreciate any help in the matter.

most notebook that do sleep/shutdown charge on one usb port it is normally marked with an little lighting bolt.
The only device that can be charged when in sleep/shutdown are device that only require a 5volt supply and not an active data connection, the Ipod/Iphone and others need an active data connection and will only charge when the notebook is running/ unless you can get a special charging lead. -
Thanks Tinderbox
None of the USB ports on my new or old laptop have a lightning bolt or anything indicating power - so no idea about that.
Since my XPS charges my phone, I figure charging my android only requires a 5V supply. I wall-charge it using the same USB cable, so it should work with a powered USB port.
Anything else I can try?

have you enabled sleep/shutdown charging in the bios, or sometime there is a piece of software to enable it from windows.

i guess USB charging is a new thing and old laptops dont have this feature . It charges the gadget even when the laptop is switched off

Tinderbox - I checked the bios and there's nothing about USB power/charging or anything..
aBs0lut3z33r0 - My old laptop does USB charging while sleeping, but my NEW one doesn't - its perplexing..
Any other tips?

How do USB ports/powering work exactly (ex. when sleeping)?
