This is driving me insane! I got my new HDX16 the other day and i opted for the tv tuner, and its great, but after about 30 minutes of tv viewing, my hard drive is BLAZING hot. i found out that its constantly recording!

Im not familiar with media center at all, so i had no idea that it recorded all the time. I cant find any options to just WATCH tv, which is all i want to do.

If it is not possible, is there any tv tuner software out there i can use to just watch tv?

theres this HP mediasmart software that was included, but it seems pretty poor. I cant get any digital channels to come in and changing channels is SLOOW

You can check to see if Media Center has scheduled recordings. From the main menu, under TV + Movies, go to Recorded TV. If there are any recordings listed here (including those that came with Media Center), you can right-click and delete them.

There is also a button on the top that says "View Scheduled." This is where Media Center puts all of the scheduled recordings that have not yet been executed. If any entries are listed here, delete all of them as well.

    Hope this helps.

Well, if worse comes to worse, you can always reset Media Center back to its factory defaults by running Windows Media Center setup again. Under Tasks, go to Settings >> General >> Windows Media Center Setup >> Run Setup Again. This will reset all configuration options that were previously set in Media Center.

BTW, is the HP MediaSmart software currently installed on your computer? Because it may include TV recording software which is independent from Media Center (this may be recording something instead of Media Center).
