I'm just wondering how people get termperature readings for their laptop? Is there a special program they use?

Download Notebook Hardware control. It tells you the HD temp and the CPU temp.

I use Mobile Meter. I'm not sure offhand where to get this but just do a search for it and something should come up.

I like Everest Ultimate Edition. It's the only thing I've found so far that reads all five of my notebooks sensors. HDD1, HDD2, Ambient GPU, GPU Core & CPU.

My favorite is Hardware Sensors Monitor ... http://www.hmonitor.net/ ... it throttles the CPU to keep your system temperature within a certain range. I bought it several years ago to prevent my laptop's bios from shutting down due to overheating ... it kept the system temperature within the "safe" zones. They also have great support. They have a free version and a PRO version ($30). Try it out; It's been well worth it for me over the years.

SpeedFan is another great option ... http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php ... and it's freeware.

    MobileMeter ... http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/MobileMeter.shtml

It didn't give me the cpu temp when I tried it? Am I doing something wrong or is it the type of notebook I have?

The newer HP Turion notebooks appear to have broken ACPI support in the BIOS, at least as far as CPU temperature reading goes. No one's found anything that will read them.
