    I just bought a dv9207us.

Is there a procedure somewhere that guides one on how to make system restore/recovery disks? (HP sells them as options on their customization website, but my unit was pre-manufactured.)

    THANKS! :)

It should be in one of the menus somewhere in the Start menu

I made a set for a dv2000t that I ordered recently. My daughter took it back to school, but if I remember correctly, find the recovery manager in programs, and follow the instructions. It's pretty simple to do, just takes some time.

    Yep.... start>all programs>accessories>recovery manager>recovery disc creation

For the OP... Use of a -RW media will cause the recovery disk creation process to fail.....

    Create an XP recovery disk
If you have not already created a set of recovery disks, it is advisable to do so now. If the upgrade fails, use the recovery disks to re-install the original XP operating system. You can only create one (1) set of HP recovery disks, and the disks will work only on the original computer.
Do the following to create the HP XP recovery disks.
On the HP Upgrade Utility panel, click Next to automatically launch the Backup and Recovery Manager.
Select Expert Mode if available; otherwise, click Next.
Select the option to Create system recovery discs. Click Next and follow the instructions.
When prompted, insert blank disks in the DVD/CD-ROM drive. Be sure to label each Recovery disk and store the entire set in a safe location.
Depending on the type of disk drive, multiple blank CD-R or DVD-R or DVD+R disks are needed. Use of a -RW media will cause the recovery disk creation process to fail.
If the HP Backup & Recovery program is not on the PC, see Obtaining a Recovery CD or DVD set .

Chapter 4, page 4-4, in the quick reference book that came with the computer. You will need 2 dvds. It went quite smooth..

I'd do a backup with Acronis true image, or Ghost....

Acronis allows you to create a restore partition on the disc.

For details, I've made other posts on it....

Should the recovery disks be made on a factory-fresh laptop before you install any software on the PC? Or can you make the recovery disks at any time later on?

    Thanks again! :)

The "HP" recovery discs can be created at any time... BUT it would be best to do it as soon as possible.... as you never know if that "next" piece of software may cause "problems".

Keep in mind that the HP recovery disc only restores your system back to AS-SHIPPED condition..... any apps you install later, your DATA will be gone during a restore...(There may be a option for your data.. on the restore process... but don't count on it as a total restore may be needed)

Better option is to use Arconis, or Ghost..

Why?... well you can image the drive day 1.... then image it again after you install xyz software package, and again after you install yzx software package... at ANY point in time.... over and over and over again...

In a nutshell once you get your system set-up you can image the drive, your DATA.... and be back up and running within minutes.... everything configured just the way you left it.

The ONLY thing the HP Recovery Disc Creator is good for is to restore back to factory as it does not allow for multiple copies to be made.

IF the option is showing on your machine, then make then, store them away...
(you might want to test them to make sure they work btw... early on in case they "don't" create right... so you can call HP a demand a replacement set be set out.....

If the unit isn't that old, they are more likley to "work" with you, instead of 2 years later if you call them due to the discs not creating right.

If the option is not on your machine, OR you'd like to be able to IMAGE the hard drive at ANY time.. grab a copy of Arconis.... make your "own" restore discs /and/ or recovery partition.

You'll need (1) DVD +R Dual Layer Disc if you want it to fit on one DVD :D

You won't much care for the factory recovery disks once you start using Acronis Trueimage 10 :D

Get your system all cleaned up nice and shiny with everything working, then make a backup image and store it somewhere safe. You can make another after you install all your stuff, but if something gets messed up, you can always put the original back and start over. Don't use any version lower than 10.

So the recovery disc process creates it from the RECOVERY DISC partition? I have the dv9207us and there is a recovery partition. I can't seem to access those files as well.
