How exactly do I tell if it's running my 6770m or the intel hd?

Haven't tried this out myself but you can download GPU-Z and see if you are able to tell.

Alternatively, you could download HWmonitor and look at the temp of the intel 3000 chip. If it's 0 degrees then you're on the integrated graphics. If it's anything else then you're on the discrete.

The Intel card can handle blu rays just fine, so I doubt it would switch from only playing a blu ray.

You can see the assignment of the processes in CCC. (Right click-->configure switchable graphics). High performance is the 6770, power saver is the intel hd 3000.

Just as a tip: You want the Intel HD 3000 in all applications other than gaming. It can easily handle 1080p video, blu-ray, etc.

Make sure the 6770m is ONLY running during gaming. Otherwise, you'll see an unnecessary decrease in battery life and excessive heat.

Sure, but did you forget? OpenGL doesn't work like that for us dv6t-61xx owners.

The easiest way to tell for me:
Install CPUID's HWMonitor, and leave it running. It has an entry called "Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics". If the temperature is 0C, Radeon isn't turned on. When the temperature is significantly higher than 0C, and a new "Voltage" category appears under it, the Radeon is working. (If the temperature drops back to 0C, you'll know the Radeon isn't processing anymore.)

Indeed, you are correct. Applies for everything other than OpenGL applications.

Run the AMD System Monitor. It shows iGPU and dGPU performance.
