How hot does the Envy 17 feel at idle and under load?

I'm looking at getting an Envy 17, I currently have a Dell XPS16. Probably my biggest complaint about the XPS is how warm it feels, even at idle. How warm/hot does the Envy 17 feel when using it both at idle and under load? There are a lot of throttling and heat related issues with the XPS. I don't want to experience that again.

One other thing, does the vent by the LCD exhaust dust onto the screen? Thanks!

ZippoMan, Envy 17 is facing serious heating issues plus its battery performance are really pure. You think your XPS is hot????

Tell me that again, once you experience the Envy 17...
You can cook an egg in Envy's 17 surface seriously.

Sorry to tell but if your main concern are heating issues then the current Envy 17 is definitely not for you.

Wait for the Envy 17 3D, while no-one knows for sure if the new model will bring any other additions beside the 3D screen, rumor has it they rework their power management system for that model.

Thanks for the info. I was planning to at least wait for the Sandy Bridge processors so the 3D model should be out by then.

That's what I was afraid of. I really don't want to have to buy a full fledged gaming system for adequate cooling.

The Envy 17 3D should be available before the end of the year most likely end of October or November. Sandy Bridge processors are expected to launch Q1 2011.

Ummm....you must have a different Envy 17 than I do. Under SERIOUS load, the left vent air is hot, and the surface gets warm, but come on....if I cracked an egg on my Envy 17 surface under load, all I'd have is a ruined keyboard and a liquid mess to clean up.
