I have a DV6299, love the machine - but the temperature the AC adaptor gets too is kinda disturbing - i can barely keep my hand on it. This is while its sat on the desk too, not bundled in a rug or anything. Does anyone else find this or do i have a dodgy one?

This is after a few hours use on high performance, but not doing anything more than playing music and surfing the net.I ts not had the battery drained either so isnt working hard to charge that up too - just powering the laptop.

Mine gets very hot when I run applications that require high CPU power like watching HDTV programs using USB HDTV tuner and Vista Media Center Edition.

It runs pretty cool under normal notebook usage like browsing the internet.

My notebook is three years old, but my AC Adaptor gets very hot and it also takes a while to cool down. But I guess it depends on your usuage.

The adaptor is essentially a transformer that changes the voltage from your mains socket to the voltage the laptop is designed to run at. It's just like a tiny version of those massive electricity substations you see dotted around our cities, and those are usually made of metal and covered with cooling fins.

Transforming voltages produces a lot of heat, and considering our transformers are wrapped up in nice plastic casings it's not surprising that they get very hot. I sometimes prop mine up on its end and lean it against a wall to try to improve airflow around it, but I don't think there's generally anything to be worried about if it runs hot.

mine gets very hot. i usually leave my notebook on for a few days at a time. the notebook itself stays pretty cool, (not to hot) but as for my ac adapter, nope. i made a label for my ac adapter with a label maker (the one that stamps out the letters, not printed) lets just say it melted off the letters

I wish they made them with an aluminum casing (With some fins on it). Using an insulator like plastic doesn't seem like a very ideal material to wrap a hot component in.

Ummmm... then people would complain about getting cut on their brick. Remember what's hot to us isn't that big of a deal for a electronics.

Most AC adapters ought to run at about the same temp as the bottom of the laptop.

Also, f your adapter was made of aluminium it would essentially become a radiator that's too hot to touch. Not to mention the expense of the thing.
