So my friend has kids in his house, and they dropped his MBP-15 from bed to carpeted floor many many times while playing, but its still working fine, not even a scratch on the body. While I love this thing about MBR's along with their elegance factor and the fact that they run cool, I dont like mac os very much. So I am pretty set for buying envy as my next notebook. While it looks somewhat like a MBR, and also has the elegance element in its design, I am wondering if its built as tough as a MBR too?? Can it withstand falls from a bed's height to carpeted floor? Does it tend to run cool too and Is the body of envy's scratch resistant?

    1. Yes it can withstand a drop from like a bed to a padded floor.
    2. No it doesn't really run cool (Current and Past-Generation Envys never really ran cool cool...) So you will need to run them with some elevated ventilation to get them running touch cool.
    3. Scratch-resistance on those things are a joke. The metal shell can easily get scratched or nicked from something sharp.

You basically have to baby an Envy to make it run cool and in pristine condition. They aren't going to work well running on a bed or being abused by kids as much.

Yeah I would have to agree except my Envy 14 runs very cool. CPU never goes above 80 and my GPU always stays in the high 60s, low 70s when I am playing games. I even have the GPU overclocked, yet it still stays in those temperature ranges.

From my experience the Envy can withstand short falls and is hard to scratch. Because of the design on the Envy its hard to notice any sort of scratches if any and fingerprints are nonexistant. I have an i5-520m and mine is always running cool.

CPU 80/GPU 70 isn't 'very cool', there are laptops that run a good 20C lower than that under heavy stress.

Well IMO, I think the Envy 14 runs cool, and I hear more about computers that have heat problems than those that do not. Also to answer the question to the thread, compared to my friend's MBP, they both run at around the same temperatures.

I'd like to put the Envy of the user who said they are difficult to scratch to test. I have a new Envy now, but I learned well from the first that they are indeed easy to scratch. Keep it away from anything sharp. Hell, my TV tuner antenna fell against it and scratched it.

It's not that easy to scratch. Just be careful and leave it in a case and you'll be fine. The build quality is okay... definitely better on the MBP.
