I've got a key on my DV2000 that doesn't always work. Specifically it's the letter "g" key...it's very annoying since i don't always read what I type and therefore can't correct the errors. I know how to replace a keybaord on a laptop but how likely will HP send out a new keyboard replacement? Or do I need to send in my laptop? Anyone?

I would say... wait it out until your warranty expires... then do it yourself...
You can buy these hp keyboards on ebay or any other hardware supply stores...and there are also tons of documentations on how to replace parts for HP laptops (search the forum)...

err...why would I want to wait it out? That doesn't make sense.

I don't see why they won't, unless they require you specifically to send it in for repair.

I've had two keyboards sent to me from hp support, one because the key popped off and the replacement having really uneven keys.

My notebook, though is a business class notebook, so maybe consumer level customer support don't send out keyboards?

    This is why:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=198900

My point is changing a keyboard is such an easy task, there's really no need to waste time sending the laptop to HP back and forth and risk your laptop being scratched or damaged by 3rd party repair.

Wait until your warranty expires, so that you don't void it when you open up your laptop in case if other parts of the laptop go wrong in the future...

That's just me... if you have complete faith in HP repair service, then go ahead and send it in (who knows, maybe HP won't transfer your laptop to a 3rd party just for a keyboard replacement)....

    Good Luck!

Ok Look. I completely took apart my old laptop from HP and there is nothing inside the laptop that will tell them if you cracked it open, unless you break something. About a month after I took it apart I had to send it back for repair because the CPU, which I didn't even touch, was having problems. They didn't even know I had the computer in a hundred pieces and gave me no problems. The keyboard is an easy fix, and if you ask them to they should send it out to you. I had to replace the wireless card in my laptop and they sent me directions on how to do it myself. They even have manuals on HP.com that will explain how to completely disassemble your laptop.

I guess they gave you problems from opening your laptop TomTom?

Give them a call and ask, what's the worst that could happen?
