I was never quite sure if laptops were designed to run full out (100% CPU Usage) for extended periods of time. I have a dv6500t with a Core 2 Duo T7500 CPU. How long can I run it at 100% CPU utilization before running into heat problems? Is there any limit?

It will be fine. Just make sure you put it on a hard surface so it can breathe. Alternatively, get a cooling pad to sit it on if you are going to be running full load a lot. You'll probably see temps around 70C from my experience.
What are you doing anyway running at full load? -
Technically it can run for weeks or months on 100 % load. As long as your temps are ok, you don´t need to worry about that. when temps get too high your laptop will shut down anyway.
And if you run into heat problems after a short time, you should check like mentioned before that your notebook can breathe, look where the fan is located and watch out that enough "cold" air gets inside. Keeping your notebook clean ( check the notebook cleaning topics) will help also. -
I was thinking about a multiprocessor chess program. They scale very well and can use all the CPU processing power your machine has for an extended period of time.

Keep an eye on your CPU temps. Core temps should be in the 40c-80c range
Get a laptop cooler if your gonna run your laptop for extended periods -
Undervolt your CPU with software, it's one of the easiest way to keep it cool at no extra cost.
My CPU uses 62 % of the original power consumption because I've undervolted it from 1.2625 V to 1.0 V at max speed.
If you don't know the maths, look here. -
Oh yeah, totally forgot about that.
Read the undervolting guide on my sig. You can easily cool off 10c with no performance loss.
How long can an Intel T7500 CPU be run at 100% Utilization?
