Does HP wait until they receive the laptop before they reimburse you? Or do they reimburse you as soon as they know it's on its way?

They have always reimbursed me the day they received the laptop. I don't know if they have more than one returns center but the one I always sent them to was relatively close to me so it only took a couple of days to get there.

As above, almost all companies will provide the refund after receipt and verification of the item.

I don't know of anyone who provides a refund on returned goods without having the goods. That's an awfully foolish fraud risk for any company to do. I could be sending them a box full of old clothes for all they know.

My two Amex credits went through the day that Fedex received the 2 laptops from me. Very fast service!

If only I were that lucky... I cancelled my original order 2 hours after I made it because I decided to go with the 1080p screen. That was 16 days ago and I still havnt gotten my refund yet. After hours of going back and forth with customer service I finally got $100 credit refunded, but if I dont get this refund back very soon im gonna have to try and work some more out of them. I mean this laptop should have never even been built, they are just wasting their resources. No wonder the build dates have gotten to be so bad.

I had a similar experience. I canceled an order that was in production for a couple weeks but was delayed due to parts shortages. After making my intentions absolutely clear and waiting a couple days, HP was able to cancel the order, sent me an e-mail confirmation, and said that my money would be refunded in 5 business days. After giving them a bit of extra time beyond that, I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card company. They gave me the credit, and I guess they got it back from HP because I've not heard anything since then.
