I recently purchased an Envy 14 and recieved it on Friday. I did a clean reformat and came to discover that my laptop had the cpu whine. At first I thought I could just deal with it and become used to it, but after a day of using the laptop, it's driven me crazy. The Envy 14 is the absolute best laptop I've ever used and I love it to death, but this whine is just too much for me and I'm now planning to exchange it.

Does anybody know how long it takes for HP to exchange a laptop? And do they do cross shipping? Also, if I used the 2 day shipping option for my current Envy 14, will the 2 day shipping also apply to the new Envy that they send me?

    Thanks in advance!

It would be faster to return this one for refund and order a new one with the specs you want. Otherwise, HP will attempt to fix before deciding whether to replace the entire laptop. Not sure about this CPU whine, but I know it can take multiple shipments back and forth for some issues to get fixed, from what I've heard.

I recently exchanged a hp dm4t. I shipped the old one out the same day so it said order in production. This was July 23. When I first wanted to exchange it they told me the estimated ship date was going to be August 18th I was like are you $%^&ing serious. If i were to order a new computer my self the estimated ship date was August 8th. But I wasn't going to put up with a faulty computer so I said screw it and sent the old one back. Well my replacement computer shipped two days ago and it it supposed to be here August 4th so I guess it's not really that bad. IT would be a month since I ordered my original computer on July 4th. Plus I had to deal with the hassel of using a $300 coupon but in the end I got my way. They still owe me $50 dollars. I need to call and nag about that too they said I would get credited once it ships and I never did.

I RMA'd my Envy 14 and the estimated build date is August 13. On the same day, I decided to customize another Envy 14 on the website and noticed that the estimated build date was August 5. A refund would definitely be faster, although I would not suggest it unless you're willing to downgrade your screen or pay an extra $100 for the radiance screen.

Update: Apparently, the laptop was finished on August 1st and is now being shipped to me o_O

Hmmm so my estimated build date also says August 18th but I'm guessing since Pureblood's laptop was way earlier than the August 18th that my laptop will be built earlier than that too right?

You have to remember that the order for mine went through on July 23 though. And I'm guessing they might be swamped with school orders.

I RMA'ed my Envy 14 on July 26th because of a dead pixel, and got a confirmation email that my replacement has just been shipped today (August 2nd).

It has an estimate time of delivery for August 5th.

liketoks, did yours originally say August 18th as well? Is there a way that I could change the shipping address because I have to go to school on the
21st, which is my main concern for the late ship date.

The original estimated build date was August 16th. I was surprised when HP sent an email that my exchange has shipped.

Yeah my friend had the whine on her i7 and it was twice as loud as mine. Shipped back for a brand new exchange without a problem. She's having it shipped to another state where tax is way lower and they even took that into account too. Props to hp on their return/exchange policies.

    Greetings all,

I just began a warranty exchange process with HP for my EliteBook 8740w - (the backlit keyboard was non-functional (DOA) and after hours on the phone HP support overnighted the wrong replacement part, etc.)

I am waiting on a call from the "Case Manager", who I assume will review and authorize the exchange. I am within the 30 day return/exchange period, etc.

My questions to you all -

    1. Does HP send refurbished models as exchange units or do they request a new factory build?

    2. Do they cross-ship and/or pre-authorize any monies on a credit card or do I have to box up and send in the original unit first?

Thanks in advance for any info anyone may have!!!!
