    I want to know how long my new laptop will last before it becomes obsolete.

    2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz

    I think you should be good for at least a couple of years. You can never really tell, though.

    Well considering that its the 2nd gen core i series processor that you have in there, and the first gen is still selling from HP and a number of other manufacturers (and it is 1.5 years old at this point) I'd say you have a reasonable amount of life left in it yet. 1.5-2 years before you might want to even consider it.

    You Will be the one to determine when it becomes obsolete--i.e. not providing the performance you want or unable to run program(s). I don't think there is a magic date though Moore's law does state that computer performance will double every two years.
