Well, me first. Very satisfied of it. Inceased my boot time a lot. From the time i select Vista Windows from my dual boot menu to the time where i can see all the icons on the desktop, it takes 31 seconds.
My internet connection (wireless) as improved a lots.
One thing that hasnt improved and surprised it didnt is the speed of the download or the speed of a file copy. If i recall they were all saying that the sp1 would bring a faster way to copy/transfer files. I tried to copy a file of 40geg approx, prior the update it took 3min50 sec (if i recall well). Once the update installed it took 10 sec less.
A big plus to it is that my ATI TvTuner is working very well with the Windows media player. With the previous version, it wouldnt even recognize the tv tuner.
In summary, Very satisfied, i recommend.
** Maybe i should specify that the Vista i have in my Pavillion is a version i installed from an OEM vista Disk, so i do not have the trash we usually get from a quick recovery installation disk. This might be the reason of my fast boot times.
Have a nice day all (Below is summary of the responses)

I'm satisfied fully.

For me, vista is definitely snappier, and the annoying networking bugs have been squashed.
I think vista still has a ways to go but it's definitely improved with SP1.

BLING ON...or in other words, don't leave home without it.

Satisfied.

bling on .... euh... i assume this is a positive response right ? (Sorry for my poor english)

There is a thread bumping around with some benchs you should look at. For me, I love the faster transfer speeds.
Satisfied. -
Faster transfer speed... could you elaborate on this. Is it when you transfer files within a network (from pc to pc) or when you copy files elsewhere on your own pc ? -
i am satisfied with SP1 but it killed the transfering speed between to drives by more then 50% in the beginning.
Before 20-37Mb/s
Right after 6-12Mb/s
Now 20-41Mb/s (i have seen it at 67Mb/s)
both drives are internal. -
brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
Works for me. 64-bit Vista SP1 desktop and dv9000z laptop.
-
When transferring over network (cat5) or internal to usb, or partition to partition, I have noticed significantly faster speeds, up to 4x with some larger files.

Absolutely satisfied here!

great nice speed boasted

I was already satisfied with Vista pre-SP1.
Especially moreso recently having to deal with the older OS's Win2k and XP as part of my networking course. Vista offers a prettier interface for the noobs, and much greater flexibility and simplicity in admin/management functionality for the non-noobs.
As for the "slow" file transfer speeds - it's because Vista does things differently to previous OSs, and this difference is perceived to be inferior by the 'know it alls'.
eg. to emulate the faster file transfer speeds pre-SP1, goto Control Panel, Programs and Features, in the Tasks menu on the left of the window click on Turn Windows features on or off, and uncheck "Windows DFS Replication Service".
Basically when you transfer a file, Vista checks the source and destination in search of a duplicate file/data, and if found only transfers the portion of data that is changed or different between the two. Since most copy/move commands are not to sync files to/from external devices, disabling this 'feature' will speed up your normal file transfers. This accounts for the perceived lag when your move/copy files when Vista 'calculates' before the popup with the 'time remaining' counter. -
I hate Vista less post SP1. Keep in mind I still hate it; maybe with SP2 I'll become nuetral...
-
thanks for the reviews!
i was very unsatisfied with the OEM Vista that came with my laptop, thts why i went XP Pro
if i get the chance (and maybe a spare HD so i dont put my files at risk) ill try out SP1 -
With SP1 my logon time (with web browser open) is 43 seconds, before SP1 it was 28 seconds.
Very annoying!
Other than that it is quicker than before. -
If I could get the update to get passed 19% without failing I would be able to tell you..
Then again I never will be able to because I was sent this trash laptop with 64bit ultimate which was the worst mistake ever -
I use the Briefcase function to keep my notebook and desktop files in sync. With my old XP PIII notebook this sync process is extremely fast. On my new notebook with vista (in sig) this process is painfully slow (same files). I had thought SP1 was going to correct this, it didn't
I don't notice much difference overall after SP1 with how I use my notebook.

ok this is weird. on my hp laptop, the OEM Vista (with junk cleaned out) was SOOO slow.
i just clean installed Vista on an external HDD (but im using VMWare) and its SO MUCH FASTER on 512MB of RAM.
this isnt SP1 though...... -
-
yeah but i thought Vista was just slow in general even with all the BS removed. it was still taking large amounts of RAM and it was just overall sluggish as hell. i deleted so much that i would have thought it was a clean install.
-
Now that SP1 has been installed and running a few days, performance does seem a bit better. Bootup times are faster as well as response time (on some things). Some apps still feel more zippy on XP (like AVG), but whatever.......
-
I'm satisfied with Vista SP1, except for one thing. I installed SP1 on two of my Pavilions. My DV6000z is fine and no problems, but my DV2700z is no longer coming out of sleep. The blue leds light up, but that's it. The screen remains dark. Th only thing that helps is to remove the battery and unplug the power cord from the wall.
-
you might want to update drivers and BIOS
-
I didnt find any noticable difference in SP1...
-
I'll be honest. SP1 Update hasn't shown up on my Windows Update and I don't care, I'm enjoying a great "semi-stability" time with vista and I don't want to mess up things with SP1. And anyway, I'll be moving to Fedora 8 in the mid future, and only will use windows on VM or maybe, in dual boot, but I'm not sure.
-
Yeah if your happy with what you got right now then dont upgrade to SP1 using the standalone installer.
If its not showing up on WU. It means your system isnt eligible for this update yet. -
How many of you guys are satisfied of Vista SP1 ?
