I want to get a 8510p but if the Penryn is less than a month away I will prefer waiting. Anyone have any estimates on when the business laptops will get the new Intel processors?

I'd expect mid to late March. Once the Quickspecs and BIOS are released, it means they are going into production. Right now, the specs and BIOS have not been updated.

I'm surprised they're not out yet, I'm guessing we would see them real soon.

Penryn will soon be used in their business line (definitely less than a month away).

I haven't read much about the Penryn, but what are the added benefits of it?

Nevermind, lol, just went out and read about them. It looks like they will be a huge hit, especially with all the performance increases that they will offer. I'm already thinking about buying the new Penryn Quad Core for my desktop when it comes out!

If you still want to see a comparison of merom vs. penryn look here

So many people are writing off penryns as a minimal performance increase, but they are all assuming it's 5-10% (clock for clock they are) when the replacement for the T7500 (equally priced) the T9300 is actually 20% faster.

Will there be much of a difference in gaming performance with the Penryn processors?

There will be a significant delay for getting Penryns in the P and W models (about 2-3 months ETA currently, not sure why). The b and s models are being shipped with Penryns now.

Sounds like we'll see Montevina before HP can get Penryns into their high end line up. I think they're doing a wait and see approach as Dell has yet to update its Latitude D-series with Penryns (they might not as the E-series is coming up).

id love to have a 2510p with penryn and SATA, but I think the wait for montevina will be worth it for HP, which i believe should be coming around June. Montevina includes DDR3 as well and updated integrated graphics. I think the 2510p is HPs sexiest laptop (unfortunately, i think alot of people in the 12" market dont even know of its existence) but has a few flaws. Montevina is a BIG update and due in about 3 months but yall know how the waiting game goes.

Don't hold your breath for Montevina on HP's business range yet. Following HP's release cycle, Montevina should show up in September/October, but we're waiting for Penryn on Santa Rosa and even for that, we have to wait till mid-April for a full scale release.

I thought i remember the business line getting santa rosa around the same time as the consumer line and even other manufacturers.

The Engadget post is pretty old news as the B and S series have been announced with Penryn for a while now.
There will be delays for the P and W series. The first high-end model to get Penryn should be the 8510p, with the first supply coming in 2 weeks earliest.

Actually all models are already announced with Penryn for quite a while (since February), the only problem is HP can't ship them until now.

Just a heads up on new information I've received in case anyone is still holding out.

The entire line up of HP business notebooks, including the high performance series, is now officially offering Penryn processors (T8100, T8300, T9300 and T9500 only). Beginning this week, expect to see preconfigured models showing up, with CTO builds coming in the next 2-3 weeks.

The 8710w will still be offered with the 1600M card as a preconfigured option. No general availability of the much anticipated 3600M is scheduled so far, but the 3600M models will ship with a new high-powered 135W Smart Adaptor.

There will be no lineup changes for this refresh cycle.

Now let's forget the above and wait for Montevina.

I spoke to someone at HP and asked about Penryn as well as a DX10 compatible video card for the 6910p and was told that Penryn should be available by the end of the month (but unforutnately I didn't find out anything about the graphics card).
