Im not sure how much the nc8430 was when it was released, but right now, I plan to get a 8510p when it is released with comparable specs to this 8430...
http://www.euclidcomputers.com/frameset.cgi?finditem+laptop+Hewlett-Packard+RM150UT#ABA
WSXA+
2.0 ghz C2D
256MB Video Card
1GB Ram
120GB HD
etc
.
.
.
How much would you think a 8510p would sell for when it came out with those specs? ~1600 like the one from Euclid?
-
-
How would we know that?
Perhaps, you will find out in two weeks, wondering in the meantime... -
My psychic powers estimate $1799-$1899...
I'm excited...this will be my next laptop. -
At least you have a good taste for notebooks... -
What i mean is, the 8510p should be priced similarly to the nc8430 when it came out (because they have such similar specs). So, if anyone knows the price of the nc8430 when released, it would be helpful. -
HP says the 8510p will be around $1,500 for the basic ensemble package. If you want to customize it (c'mon..you know you do) it can get up and above $2000. But then again, do you REALLY need that Blu-Ray rewritable drive?
Personally I plan on my 8510p looking like this:
Windows XP SP2
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7500 2.20 GHz 4 MB L2 cache 800 MHz 4MB L2
SODIMM 2GB stick
160 GB 5400 rpm SATA
LightScribe DVD+/-RW SuperMulti with Double Layer
15.4-inch diagonal WSXGA+ wide-viewing angle
ATI Mobility Radeon X2600(XT if it is an option) graphics with 256 MB dedicated video memory (512 MB HyperMemory)
Wireless b/g/n
Integrated Bluetooth 2.0
HP Fingerprint Sensor
8-cell (73 Wh) Lithium-Ion
I am going to "dock" it with my 32" LCD via HDMI,bluetooth keyboard and mouse because it puts my current desktop to shame in almost every way. I am interested in the HD technology but it just isn't worth investing in for the next couple of years, although the HDMI port is a main reason for me buying the 8510p. That technology WILL become more prevalent and with these specs the laptop should be good for at least 3-4 years. The only component that might be outdated is the HDD/optical drive (which can be replaced) and the graphics card. But my gaming needs aren't great and I'm still making do with my Radeon 9800 XT 256MB so I'm expecting the HD 2600 to be at least on par, or better than that.
A customer service rep really likes me at HP and she calls every now and again to let me know any change in launch date/price/etc....
I love the way it looks, but I HATE the Compaq name and their reputation for ****ty, budget desktops. I'm hoping their business notebooks are better.
I also wish for a better graphics card option, but hey...theres always something, eh?
EDIT: Anyone know if the laptop's HDMI port will be HDCP compliant? -
The HP Compaq line of business notebooks are extremely well built, and rumors have it almost as well built as the legendary Thinkpads. Owning one myself, I believe that.
I kind of hope we can get a-hold of those BluRay drives as parts...I'd love to upgrade my nc8430 a little bit. -
Another satisfied HP Compaq user here. The business lines are really great. They put Thinkpads to shame in that HP can actually make something that is as reliable and looks good at the same time. Imo, HP still needs better branding for its business lines, coupled with a few "legendary" videos for promotion. They have been known too long for being a low-cost IBM clone manufacturer, thus deserving a change.
-
Also, why do you fail to realize that you cannot just fabricate a legend, the reason that HPs are not legendary is simply because they haven't always been great. The ThinkPads have had their reputation for years not since yesterday and they have it for a reason.
As I told you last time, I have the T60 and the HP nc8430 here and both aren't mine, so I don't have any reason to be subjective... and I would bash both of them with great pleasure but the latter has more for bashing... -
The nc8430 Notebooks are extremly well built.
I bought an nc8430 last year and am over the moon with the purchase, it has turned out to be one of the best pieces of electronic goods I have ever bought.
Question:
Is this 8510p you are talking about the new gen 8430?
I have been looking for the current version of the 8430 for a friend, but have not been able to find it. -
Yep. The 8510p is the new version of the the HP nc8430 and yes it's an excellent notebook.
And, you can find both of them on the HP site. -
The nc8430 is still available, and has a hearty discount on it at the moment. So if you don't care being "stuck" with the X1600 video card (you could do far worse) and no HDMI, then it looks to be a good value at the moment as HP makes way for the 8510.
I've actually been wondering on whether or not I want to wait for the 8510, or pick up nc8430 since they're rebated at the moment, but I can see myself using the HDMI a lot to connect to my LCD tv, and I guess it's always nice to have a new-gen graphics card (ATI HD 2600). Unfortunately the Blu-Ray drive will undoubtedly be out of my price range.
It looks like the 8510 has a new keyboard compared to the 8430, I wonder if it will be as solid (or better) than the current offering. Everyone is always talking about the quality of Lenovo's keyboards, I wonder if HP is trying to steal that crown. I think Thinkpads are excellent machines, very purposeful and resilient, but to me the HP business notebook just comes off as a better "jack-of-all-trades" machine.
We have HP nx7300's at work, the most basic model available with the Celeron M 430, but they seem to be of decent quality. A hell of a lot better than my 3 year old Pavilion with its creaking body. -
There is also an HDMI port on the 8510p...so I'm assuming it is HDCP compatible.
-
Won't be an issue for me though since I don't illegally obtain high-def pRon or movies. I'm just not that guy.
It will be nice to play some HL2 on my high-def TV though....So long as I can do that, I'll be happy. -
I want to know how much the nc8430 was when it was released (with the specs in my first post) so I can ballpark how much the 8510p will be. -
Just wait two weeks and you will find out.
I don't believe that anyone remembers the initial price of this notebook as well as I don't believe these things are connected... market changes at end. -
The 8510p is the replacement for the nc8430. Many improvements in the new model but the nc8430 is no slouch (Santa Rosa, draft n wireless, available BlueRay, and most importantly HDMI). If you're buddy can wait till the end of the month I'll be selling my nc8430 to get a 8510p (I'm a HP solution provider and replace every 6 - 12 months to stay current).
I'll be selling my notebook at the end of the month with 2.5 years left of warranty and the following specs for ~$900
Core 2 Duo T7200
2GB Crucial 667mhz memory (2x1GB) (will include the 2 x 512mb HP memory sticks that came with it)
100GB 5400rpm hard drive
256mb x1600 graphics
DVDRW
bluetooth, fingerprint reader
XP Pro (can include Vista Ultimate pre-loaded if requested, and NFR of Trend PC Cillin or Kaspersky Security Suites with ~9 months of service)
2.5yr remaining warranty -
-
-
-
will the screen on the 8510p be glossy, matte, or will you have the choice?
-
Matte only.
-
Note that the PDF version of the specifications doc online (updated June 5th) lists a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA option but all options list anti-glare.

I can't tell you more than there is an option to ship 8510p with WUXGA. I don't know if it will be available also for the end-user or only for large orders, but WUXGA can be installed in 8510p. If everything will go well there will be a review of such a screen on 8510p in about a month.
-
-
Well, I reviewed my brother's nc8430 in my home country (in Europe) and actually, I have recommended nc8430 to 4 other firends
So I'm quite well informed about nc8430 and 8510p...
-
HDMI isn't useful unless your TV's pixel structure is exactly 720p or 1080p. If you have something like 768p, the picture is going to look soft. VGA out is a much better solution for most HDTVs.
-
so basically, the HDMI will be to just use your tv as a really huge monitor?
-
I've been looking at this laptop, too. Really hoping I can get WSXGA+ and 2.0 ghz without spending too much.
-
With most HDTVs, it will be preferential to use the VGA out.
-
So what's the difference between the P and W models?
-
Elf:
The W is ISV certified, and uses an nVidia Quadro 570m card. The P uses an ATi Radeon X2600.
Other than that, I think only the W can be ordered with the 1920X1200 display.
-Jeeves -
W-models will be offered in better config and carries 3 years onsite warranty in USA (3 years in repair center in rest of the world).
They also have certified VGA as jeeves915 already said.
There is WUXGA option also for 8510p (I had one 8510p with WUXGA ordered until HP cancelled my order), but I'm not sure if it will be available for customers or only for tender offers.
But 8510w should be out in next few days... -
My 8510W just shipped.
I'll have my first impressions of it hopefully by this time tomorrow.
-Jeeves -
Cool. Can you be sure to include your impression of the keyboard. Thanks.
-
Will do.
The Tracking # they gave me isn't working, and they are closed for the night so I can't get an update on it. Rest assured that I'll be phonebombing them in the A.M to find out where the bloody heck my laptop is.
-Jeeves -
Am too looking forward to your first impressions.
Planning to get it for cadding and 3d works. I thought it's not launched yet?
-
I hope it won't get stuck somewhere... Can you please post log from Everest (by Lavalys) somewhere? I'd like to know which hard drive, optical drive and LCD panel are they using in 8510s...
-
Well, the tracking # is good now. Estimated delivery is by 12:00 p.m. local time.
Look for my unboxing and first impressions shortly thereafter.
I plan on running Everest, SuperPi, and 3DMark 05 & 06. Any other benchies that you want?
-Jeeves -
I'll be thankful for those information from Everest (type and model of LCD panel, HDD and optical drive). Plus any other information that might be interesting for future 8510w owners
-
just upload pictures!
-
Well, it's here. First impressions are in another thread. Pictures will be forthcoming.
-Jeeves
