I would like a T8100 CPU in it, with X3100 graphics. I priced out a dv5z model. I don't know AMD processors well, so i went with the 2.2GHz, HD3200 graphics, BT, DVD-RW (no lightscribe), etc. It came out to $900. How much more will an Intel-based one cost?

There are no prices out yet but I'm guessing it'll be about $100 more than an otherwise comparable dv5z.

Is the AMD 2.1GHz option equivalent to a T8100? Or is the 2.2?

Either will be way closer to a T8100 than a X3100 is to the Radeon HD 3200. Configure the HD 3450 upgrade option and get Hybrid Crossfire, which the Intel notebooks can't do. Skipping the Intel marketing tax will just about pay for that upgrade too.

True. If you want good value, get the AMD version but if you're looking for top performance AMD can't keep up.

Yeah, I just want a PC that runs cooler. Are the 2.1/2.2GHz AMDs 45nm? I'm less concerned about games, I have a desktop that works fine, then i'm getting a Nehalem desktop.

As far as I know, AMD just got into the 65nm process so they're not 45nm.

Yup, just went digging, and they're both 65. I think i'll wait for Intel.

So, I found that the Intel chip is not an X3100, but an X4500. Is that any closer?

i've got a question. i've seen on a few sites, and even on the HP business site where you can swap out an optical drive for a hard drive... will this be available on the DV5 series?

I doubt it, those laptops that are able to do it usually use special drive bays.
