Okay I am working with the dv6226, and for the life of me can not figure out how to rip the dvds in order to burn them. The dvd burning software on this computer is Roxio and my muvee producer 5.0, altough I'm fairly sure the roxio is the one I should be using anyway. How do I rip the dvds in order to burn them? Do I need different software?

If you're talking about DVD movies...I think you can find what you're looking for at AfterDawn.com. You'll probably want to look under "Copy DVD to DVDR".

Ripping commercial dvds is technically illegal so I dont think any laptop comes with software to rip a dvd although there are plenty of freeware you can download to do this. If you have as non-commericial dvd however, you should be able to use roxio to do a dvd copy.
