I just created the new thread because the old one wasn't really on the topic. The other topic was about using rca to svideo. and when people read it they dont bother answering. someone thats having the same problem as me wont know what the topic's about because of the name of the topic. I'm sorry for creating another thread I was just trying to Make it easier to find the problem for someone to actually help me out.

I'm having the exact same issue. I tried calling HP about it but they're clueless. To me it seems like it has to be a codec problem. I tried various codec packs and it's not working, but I can't see what else it would be. It's definitely not anything to do with you have it set up... it's something the computer needs downloaded. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Coax cable connected to VCR's coax out? VCR's have coax in and coax out.

    Try this:

Hook cable output from wall into VCR cable IN.

Then hook the VCR's OUT to the notebook tuner IN.

Set notebook to channel 3. Now make sure that the VCR will output to channel 3 (switch on back of VCR).

In this setup you are using the VCR as a tuner. See if you can set the notebook to display the cable channels via the VCR. If you can see something on notebook's channel 3, then the setup is correct. Try changing the channels on the VCR. Go through 2 through 11. Just to verify.

If that works, then play a tape. While it's playing, if you don't see anything, try pressing the TV/VCR button on the VCR's remote or front panel.

If that doesn't work, post your VCR's manufacturer and model number.

Also, if you're trying to copy copy protected content, you may run into problems. Try something you recorded.

One other thing: go into media center TV signal. Set it to antenna. Then set it to NTSC(analog).

sonyfxa36: PM'd you about the Ultrabright screen!

I was viewing your set-up photos here. Very cool! I am having trouble setting up digital cable TV to the HP DV9700: not recieving signals. The receiving cable box is in the living room with the TV. In the office I have another same-system incoming cable, splitter to cable router, which is then hooked up a a wireless router. On the HP itself I have the TV tuner card hooked up to the odd looking antenna that came with it and of course the remote signal/clicker combo. I wanted to use it wirelessly, but I can't even make a hard connection to the digital TV signals! Even our local cable company is clueless about the set up.

Thanks for any and all advice! Love the photos and descriptions: it really helps the rest of us!
