Yes I have read the notebook battery guide, but I don't fully understand it.
"Calibrate your battery with a full discharge every 30 charges to help the battery’s fuel gauge remain accurate. Run the battery down to the automatic cut-off point of your notebook before recharging."

    Wtf?
Ok so let's see. I charge my laptop with battery in to 100%, I let it rundown to 0% till it shuts off automatically, then I take the battery out? Plug it back in and charge it with AC to 100% again? Clarification would be appreciated. :]

Your notebook usually automatically ''sleeps'' at around 5% remaining...I think the guide meant charge it then, not at 0%. :)

    Take it easy though.

After you run down the battery, there is NO need to take it out; just charge it to full.

When you notice after a while that your battery-meter is not showing a realistic reading (e.g. staying at 95% for a long time even though you run on battery for 20 mins or more), run down the battery then charge it up again to rectify the error in meter reading.

You need to cycle your batterys often (discharge to the 5% cut off point and fully charge again). If you drain it past 0% your cells could reverse polarity and damage the battery

Cycling reduces memory effect. YES even li-ion & nimh batterys slightly suffer from memory effect (aka voltage depletion) ...actually all rechargable batterys do. Its just a nightmare for NiCAD batterys.

If they didnt, they wouldnt need to be calibrated often to remember their correct % and capacity
