They have not made my DV7T yet, but I'm thinking I should cancel it and order the T16 instead.

Do I have to call for this or can I do it over the web? How long before they refund my money?

I've had to cancel before and it's not easy. Atleast wasn't for me. One time I made an order noticed a mistake and called in 5 minutes later....yes 5 minutes. I checked the time on the order status and when I called in, exactly 5 minutes. But the person said I had to wait for some number on my order to show up before I could cancel. (Not my order number but some number, I couldn't understand them because they spoke poor English.) Then I called back after that and the person said they put it in for cancellation. Next day it showed "dropped to factory." So I called in again and the person transferred me to the resolution department, who also said they put in a cancellation order. They said 2 or 3 days later, I'd receive a cancellation notice.

Wow. It sounds like they have some issues with customer care. I'm still debating what to do.

You can try the cancellation route, but it's easier to return it for a refund and then get what you want. Longer process but your nerves might be better off.

It's not necessarily a CS problem, though you'll get no thumbs up from me on the state of any HP support, Customer or otherwise. It's just that things are so automated that when your payment is authorized, everything is set in motion and it's difficult to stop it. It's not like the old days when I used to do system integration, test and delivery for HP - back then everything took time. Nowadays, they have base system configurations ready to go, and all they have to do is add the extras you ordered, fire it up and test it, then pack and ship it.

I agree Cyber, but for instance my situation, I called when it hadn't even dropped to the factory. It was still in the process of authorizing my payment. As soon as I called it should be able to still be stopped because until payment is made and the charge is done, the laptop cannot begin to be built.
