Since the owners thread isn't working, I am going old school and creating, you know, a new thread.

Do Envy machines ship with a program that allows you to create a factory disk set?

Envy 15 (late 2011) on order and coming.

    Thanks,

    Thor

Yes they do. Likely several places to find it but I clicked the "Start" button then typed in "Recovery". Something like "Create Recovery Disks" will be an option. When you choose that it will take you to the program. Says something about this program allows for the creation of one set of recovery disks. Very well laid-out; tells you how many DVDs, either single density or double density or you can use a thumb drive. It will tell you to insert the DVD, lets you know what is happening--gathering information, burning to disk, verifying disk. Will tell you to take out the DVD and label 1 of 5 ( I think that is the number of regular DVDs it took) then will tell you to insert another DVD, etc, etc, etc. Took about half-hour maybe to create the disks.

Thanks. Any chance you've done a clean install on the new 15?

It looks like the core drivers are on hp.com but something tells me there's a lot more in the factory image not on the download area.

No, I didn't do clean install on any of the Envy laptops. Just make sure you make the recovery disks before you start messing with things in case something should get fouled up. There are threads all over the forum about how to do a clean install. Think they suggest backing up the SWSetup folder for sure which contains all the drivers and stuff for the HP-specific parts of the laptop.

The SWSETUP folder contains all the shipping drivers for the Envy plus programs like Adobe, Cyberlink PowerDVD and more. It is a MUST backup before doing a clean install.

I performed the back up (recovery discs and SWSetup backup) first and foremost but I've run into some problems. First off tough, with the Envy 15 you receive a license to photoshop correct? If so, how do I find the serial number or am I SOL?

My next question is, I ran every program in the 'Drivers' folder within the SWSetup folder. When I turn up the volume or brightness I am no longer getting the pop up to show the meter. Should I go throgh and try to reinstall the drivers? Thanks in advance. The beats audio button isn't working as well.

OK...in your SWSETUP folder, you have a sub folder....PhotoPIN....that is Photoshop Elements...inside the folder, look for AdobePSE9 it is a CVA file. Right click...open with Notepad. Search for Silentinstall. That will bring you to a part of the file, where you will see two serial numbers. The FIRST serial number is the serial for install and registration. Hope that helped...

Thank you very much. I found the serial, but now the PSE is not installing properly. It looks like it's going all the way through then saying something interrupted. This clean install has been pretty darn frustrating, but I am slowly getting everything in working order. This is one of my last issues.

Run Windows updates and try again. Sometimes has to do with MS Framwork or the like...perhaps even make sure that you have installed Adobe Flash, Shockwave and Reader
