Now guess, where I got this special model key from... :)

The problem is, that I wanted to check two model keys (nw9440) which are a bit different, so that I couldn't decode all with that pdf file.

don't mean to hijack this topic but I was always curious to know if there was a Serial Number decoder for the regular consumer line Pavilions and Presarios. The other thing I was wondering is, who makes the boards in HPs now, I know a lot of their desktop stuff was done by Asus but who is doing the boards for the notebooks?

    @Notbuch-User

well if didnt just only go to that page there were more on the next few pages.
page 45 was for Compaq models
pg 46 is HP Pavilion models
    pg 47-48 is HP Workstation/Business

i think pg47-48 is what you are looking for. and there is other stuff all the way to pg 53.

Yes, page 45 is for the HP/Compaq notebook models.
On page 49 you can read "See model key section for an explanation of model codes".
Two model keys from page 50 (both nw9440):
    Cnw9440UT7200H780XGeF10Pf
    Cnw9440FFUT7400K710XGhF20Pf
These two can't be completely decoded with page 45 and the following pages are for desktops/workstations (PCs).

    Example: Cnw9440UT7200H780XGeF10Pf

    C - Sub-Brand/Family: HP Compaq notebook
    nw9440 - Model Name
U - Graphics: UMA (What does that stand for???)
    T7200 - uP Brand/Model: T7200 (processor)
    H - Resolution: WSXGA+
    7 - Panel Size: 17"
80 - Hard Drive (80 GB) !!! Though the code for HDD would be in the wrong place !!!
X - Optical Drive: DVD+/- RW !!! Though the code for Optical Drive would be in the wrong place !!!
G - Comm Drive: Modem + GB NIC
    e - !!! no explanation for that letter !!!
!!! Codes for Wireless, Bluetooth, WWAN, TPM missing !!!
F - Finger Print Reader: Yes
    10 - Memory: 1024 MB
P - Operating System: XP Prof
    f - Warranty: 3/3/3

    Example: Cnw9440FFUT7400K710XGhF20Pf

Similar to the above, but what does 'FF' in 'Cnw9440FFUT7400' stand for?
