Hi everyone,
I have a Dv6500 series notebook with C2D 1.5 GHZ processor and Nvdia 8400gs Graphics card.
My notebook came with vista preinstalled which i did'nt like...
so I Installed XP primarily using the guide at this location
www.nogodforme.com
and
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319
I have installed all the drivers mentioned in the thread and I dont have any "yellow" marks in the device manager...
The problem is With Vista there was a toolbar option that displayed "battery level", "charging status" and allowed to use the following settings
1)Power saver
2)HP recommended
3)High performance
There is no such scheme settings in XP.... the only thing is XP's "built in power management"
which I feel is not good
My question is - Is there any software/drivers I should install to get the power schemes/battery meter as they come with original hp? is there any such software included in c:/swsetup folder
thanks for your patience,
regards
sakira.
p.s. I have attached a copy of my screenshot showing the "rudimentry xp "power management " in the tool bar
also I should Mention I am running XP media centre sp2.

idk if this is exactly what your looking for or not but there is a great app called BatteryBar found here( http://osirisdevelopment.com/BatteryBar/index.html) where it can show how much battery you have left. i think the pro version may have some additional features like power scheme selection. it may take a few power ups and shut downs while plugging in and running your notebook on battery untill the app can really accuratly display your battery/charge information.

I have the same notebook. And like yourself I to wanted to install XP but knew that no matter what I did, Vista would always provide me with more battery life since it does excel over XP in power management.
For your problem did you try going to the control panel in XP and opening up power options/advanced and ticking the box to put power options in the taskbar? I'm afraid those options will be limited in comparision to Vista. As for the remaining battery life etc.. I would go with a third party app like what was already suggested. But if you want to benefit from the long battery life that vista's power saver mode can provide then you better think about vista again since XP basically is crap in this regard.
How to display Battery meter and power settings on Dv6500 with XP
