I have the latest BIOS for this model (HP EliteBook 8730w), and I have no problem creating a password for the administration of BIOS, but how do I setup a simple BIOS power on password, so that anyone who starts the PC will be promted for a password.

    Thanks

do you have hp protect tools installed?

if yes, go to bios configuration on the left, there down to the security tab and on the right side the first two security options should be setup password & power-on password.

if not, inside bios theres the same option, just look through the security options.

downloading hp protect tools is quite advisable as you can manage many settings from windows.

still, hp's end-users' bios is far too restricted imo..

Yes, but there are no options for setup password or power-on password.

I do have something called HP ProtectTools Security Manager, with 3 different kinds of options:

    Credential Manager
    Pre-Boot Security
    Drive Encryption

But none of them as I can tell, is a power-on option ??
