I've had my laptop for almost a year now, and while I love it, I have to admit, I'm not very fond of the touchpad.
Anyways, I was able to use my friend's macbook pro and one of the main things I loved about it was the PURE smoothness when scrolling up or down, whether it's viewing a picture or going up and down a website. There is really no lag or choppy compared to my Envy.

I've been playing around with all the settings on my driver which is the latest version, as well as with Reil's envy touchpad, and 2fingerscroll, but I can't get it to scroll smoothly. It still chops, or jumps when chiral scrolling. And when I try to 2 finger scroll, the very instant it moves it always has that jump/chop at the beginning which is really unpleasant. Anyways I hope anyone of you can give me tips or advice to make (chiral) scrolling on my Envy like the Mac, because I'm pretty envy of the Mac's smoothness at the moment. Thanx in advance...

Go to Mouse options, under the 'wheel' tab, the 'vertical scrolling' section, change the number there to scroll 1 line at a time. It won't be butter smooth, but it'll be worlds better.

I was a little confused by the original posters question because this isn't specifically Envy related in as much as it has to do with Windows, the web browser, or the mouse driver/software.

As per the last message, there is a way to change the default Windows scrolling behavior inside the Control Panel. Web browsers tends to have scrolling controls (Firefox options comes to mind) too. Also, certain mouse manufacturers (ie. Logitech) have software drivers (ie. SetPoint) that can override windows scrolling mechanics. Finally, the graphic card drivers can play a part in this as well; so make sure you are up to date and patched.

ChiralScroll is more of a Synaptics thing, Reil's won't help with that. Have you tried two finger scrolling?

i have the 2 finger scrolling running as well, but still cant get it as buttery smooth. I was able to download an addon for firefox called YET ANOTHER SMOOTH SCROLLING, and it seems to do wonders. I still cant get it as buttery smooth like the MAC but it made a significant amount of difference.

No, I meant using 2 fingers to scroll, not the app. If you use two finger scrolling (the method), the scroll is just as smooth as a mac's.

If you need to use chiralscroll, however, your method is probably the best here because Synaptics' chiralscroll outputs a scroll action as a single line, so no matter what you won't get a good resolution because the finest scroll increment will only be one tick/line.

Two finger scrolling will allow a greater scroll resolution (meaning it is smoother) because Reil's is capable of sending scroll actions far finer than a single line of text.

What web browser are you using? You won't get the same quality of inertia as the Macbook's but if you just want smooth scrolling, make sure it's enabled in whatever browser you are using. Firefox has a setting for that. Chrome has it but you have to go to "chrome://flags" and enable it from there, might only be available in the latest dev builds though.

It's available on all releases, just checked. Never knew about this menu, though! Thanks for giving me something new to waste time on, haha.

BTW, Chrome's smooth scrolling and the "1" setting for the wheel makes my scrolling buttery smooth. I still prefer the right 1/8 of the pad for vertical scrolling, though. Then I don't get ticked if my fingers are too close together while scrolling.

I dunno if it's too much to ask, but what are you guys setting for 2 finger scroll, and Reil's Envy Touchpad app?

I've messed around, but couldnt get the desired result, maybe I can try using urs. I really appreciate it, thanx..

Give two finger scrolling a try. It has the exact, smooth, pixel-level scrolling you're desiring.

What is the two-finger scrolling, and what's that screenshot you posted? I got my Envy a week ago, coming from a MBP, and have yet to get it working anywhere near as smoothly.

I just changed it to 1 line scrolling, which makes things better, but I'm hoping I can improve it more.

    1. Disable two finger scrolling in Synaptics
    2. Use Reil's

Two finger scrolling is putting two fingers next to each other and moving up or down to scroll. If you've use a macbook with multitouch, this is exactly how they do scrolling.

    THANKS!!!

Took a bit of fiddling... I had to download the .net framework (different than the c++ executable?) and I didn't realize it was starting up in the dock, but all good now.

It really is a lot better. Still seems a bit less precise than my Macbook Pro, but I'd say like 80% there. Will try fine tuning the settings more to see what I'm used to.

seems to work great on my envy, can't wait to try it on the 1000 series, that one really sucked. my 2000 driver got the job done, but this is smoother by far

thanks a bunch. I will figure out what version of the software is on there and upgrade it appropriately before adding the program.

    Thanks!
