Sry if similar thread has been posted and answered, my 1 months old envy after all my effort to fix the overheating issue still persist, it would crash whenever I play games, I have consulted and have IT staff in my company diagnosed the machine , tried update, tweak, clean up and cooling solution, still crashed. Unfortunately I did not purchase the warranty, it under factory warranty and that's not going to do anything for me, I do not want to send in for repair cuz it's just a waste of my time and money, how do I get a refund or store credit from hp?

Not gonna happen because it's outside of the 21 day RMA period. Your best bet would be to send it in for repairs. Factory warranty is fine, it'll cover this.

You don't. Especially if you had people employ some kind of makeshift cooling solution, which would void your warranty. Sorry to hear about the problems.

P.S. So, that is for an exchange...as for a refund, that may be a different matter. But if you really need a good computer, then an exchange is more likely.

Well I bought a cooling station, did not mod the machine cuz they have warned me about the warranty.

On Fed 23, 2011 I purchased my notebook.
On Feb 24~ I called HP to lodge an overheating complaint. However ended up saying I'd talk to Newegg first.
On March 16th after 1 repair and several days wasted in calls, and waiting I finally spoke with a case manager. We had agreed on a refund. However after speaking with some people, and doing research as well as stupidly rough calculations (thanks to a friend), I managed to pull a very good sign that the sandy bridge Envy 17 would be cooler.
On March 17th I called back, and had a Sandy Bridge Envy set up as a replacement.
While mine took about 20+ days to resolve (btw I am still waiting) I had lodged a complaint from day 2.
Also if you have already modified the laptop, chances are your warranty is void. Be honest with HP and tell them have you had done. Who knows they may forgive you.
The Case manager told me since I had my laptop repaired within 60 days of purchase that I was eligible for a replacement model. So who knows you may also be eligible. However in terms of a refund, I am unsure how they go about that. -
Crimsoned, thanks for checking in. Yeah, guess you're the person that I was thinking about reading all the posts here and there, ya know its hard to remember who posted what sometimes.
Hope all goes well for Kumabear.
Very good point about documentation. Kumabear, make sure when you do call in to HP you record the case # the rep. gives you. This of course is proof you called regarding your issue and records the date.

HP rep played me like a puppy :g... They put me on the phone with a " supervisor" after getting my information, they told me that a mysterious case manager will call me in 1-2 business days (kass bye bye) heard nothing zero none for a week, I felt powerless and need some guidance and professional help
