Is it possible to install software that allows functions such as double clicking the trackpad to disconnect it or the volume buttons? Thanks

Yeah, you'll need the original HP drivers which you should have backed up before you reinstalled windows. They were in a directory in C:\ on your hard drive, and wouldn't have been lost unless you did a full reformat.
If you did, you can probably head over to the HP support website and poke around to see if they're available for download, because they probably are. -
okay thanks, i'll try that out

They're all on the first page of the Envy 14 Owner's Lounge.

True, but most posters haven't seen the first page of the owners lounge, let alone post in the owners lounge. Most posters, especially new ones, seem to prefer to start threads instead of properly posting in the owners lounges. Which might be because it doesn't seem as if anyone will answer their questions in the owners lounge.

if its an envy 17 3d, theres one driver i am still missing, and which is neither available from the manufacturer, nor from hp: broadcom wireless adapter.
i formatted the drive and installed win 7 ultimate 64bit, and everything went perfectly, but theres no driver for that specific broadcom wlan adapter (part of a broadcom wlan-bluetooth combo-adapter; hp provides a driver for the bluetooth part) anywhere, just intel proset, which isnt built inside the envy 17 3d. -

the version posted on the link on the first page of the envy 17 owners lounge is 1. for an acer notebook and 2. an old x86 driver. sure, it probably works, but it is not supported neither by hp, nor broadcom, and with just a little experience in these issues one should very well know that avoiding such situations is a must, especially when dealing with hp consumer support. business support is another story, as well as the business products' quality.
i have finally found the right one on the hp site, they seem to have forgotten to put it on the resp. envy driver support page:

Nice find! My bad for coming to conclusions too quickly. Apologies.
