Yet to order dv2000t but not sure how much memory to choose.

I want to choose a 512mb for a single slot and later purchase a 1Gb and install myself. Is it viable?

    Questions:

How difficult is it to install memory by my own?

    Which memory to buy?

Do 1Gb and 512Mb still make a so called "DDR2" double channel?

    .

A 5 year old could install the ram... go to HP and download a copy of the Service and Maintance Guide for your unit for instructions..

What ram to buy?, First thing... on the dv2000t, is it should be shipped with (2) 256mb modules, not (1) 512mb one..

Second thing is ram modules have to be matched in DDR-2 ram...

PS: I'd go for at least 1 gig when ordering unless there is a huge price differance.... (for the reasons noted above.)

Yes, both modules have to be DDR2 ram however you can still combine modules with different speeds such as one module of DDR2 w/ 533MHz and one with DDR2 w/ 667MHz. The way things work if you combine different speeds is that your system memory will run at the slower speed of the two.

The easiest way to do it is to buy 2 modules of the exact same type of ram from the same brand, this way you can take advantage of dual channel memory which additionally increases your overall system performance.

    Hope this helps...

right now hp does offer 512mb 1 stick configuration for dv2000t. My plan is to configure 512mb first and then purchase a 1gb stick later (of course with the same speed).

the question is: will both memories (512mb+1gb) work well? do they still form dual channel?
