Hi guys,
I just got a new HP dv6 3071tx one month or so ago, and it seems to run pretty hot. Main specs are:
core i7 720qm quad core 1.6ghz turboboost to 2.8ghz
ati 5650 1gb
6gb ram
15.6 inch screen
(note: all temp degrees in CELCIUS for all you americans out there that use farenheit.. i'm an aussiegood friends we signed the ANZUS and are both in APEC, so help me, i'm your ally : D)
using realtemp, it idles at around 50 and when I do cpu intensive stuff like extracting in winrar and gaming it gets up to like 80, extreme cases even 85-7. GPU probably isnt raising the temperature as realtemp normally shows it running around 50 degrees
I'm really worried. Is this normal? Hot air is coming out the side and the fan sounds like it's working hard when i'm gaming. At home I put it on a lego technic stand i made which elevates it like 3-4 cms. But I go to my relative's house every week and now that I put it on a flat surface it gets even hotter.
And please don't tell me to apply new arctic thermal grease and stuff lol.. cuz i'm just a kid and parents won't let me anyways lol.(and don't talk about buying a $1300 notebook and not being able to afford $50 or something of thermal grease haha) and I don't like laptop coolers because they elevate the notebook too much and I usually take it around so yeah... I've heard about speedfan but some people said it's more for desktops and probably won't work for big companies' motherboards cuz they're proprietary or something..
Please help.. how to make it cooler -_-
btw, not related extra question.. I just installed vmware to setup some virtual machines and after it installed network adapters to my host pc the internet has been disconnecting intermittently. Any thoughts on how to fix it? Thanks

Greetings and Welcome to the forum Jelly!
If thermal grease and laptop coolers are out of the solution, Then, try using compressed air and use it on the vents, I know your laptop is new but it doesn't hurt to try. Else , just go back to where you bought it and ask for a replacement. -
Those temps are normal for your model, maybe slightly higher than usual but its nothing critical.
Laptop cooler would probably be your best bet thats non invasive.
Another thing you can do though is remove all the HP bloatware and kill unnecessary process. They put more load on the CPU and HDD which in turn produces more heat. -
Mine is 2-3 weeks old now and the temps are like 40C Idle - 84C Medal of Honor 2010/Firefox/Music/MSN.

If you can't apply better thermal paste or get a cooling pad then there is nothing you can do. At most you can clean your vents but they are only going to do so much as stock cooling on most laptops are inefficient. You ordered a high end processor so you should have been expecting to deal with a lot of heat generated from the laptop.

That's good to hear. Is the place where you use your laptop cool or moderately hot? Do you use any kind of laptop cooler?
How to make my laptop get cooler???
