    Hi All,

My POS DV2310US that has been crashing and dying for the last couple of months finally shot craps this morning. Can anyone tell me how to remove the Hard Drive? I want to see if I can salvage any data from it.

This is the 2nd HP to do this to me in 3 years. I think it is time to switch brands.

    Thanks
    Ian

Your system's Product # is on the list of affected systems on the HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement Program. That model series, with a few others, has known defects and HP has had at that repair program for some time. I can tell you how to get your data, but your system is eligible for a free repair, even if it's out of warranty. Of course it's your choice if you just want to trash it and not get anything out of it. HP even gives you prepaid FEDEX to get the system to them. So far I've had one of my clients whose system was affected - he got it back repaired in 3 days. I came across another user over the weekend that's eligible as well. You're the second in a week.

The LWSE page is at this link:
HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement Pavilion dv2000/dv6000/dv9000

On the page, there's a link to a list of systems that have affected Product #'s. Get yours off the label under the system and verify it to the list for the 2300 series. From your series configuration I got the following Product #, which is on the list: RV322UA#ABA But check to verify that's what's on your label.

If it matches, then call the number on the first page and tell them you've got a bad system with the symptoms on that page. Don't call the regular HP support line, call the number on that page.

As far as your drive's data goes - HP is going to recover your system to its original base configuration, so any data is going to be history unless you get it off. If your system is completely unbootable, then the only real option is a data recovery, unless you've got a SATA drive and can plug it into something else. If you click on the DriveSavers link in my signature below, it will take you to an Estimate page for data recovery. Use the number in my link and put it in the Account Code field - that will get you a discount rate on any recovery service. You can also call them at 800.440.1904 for a free and instant quote.

If it's still bootable, and you can boot to your DVD drive, then you can use several recovery options to get your data off, but unless you're an extremely advanced user, I wouldn't recommend it. Knoppix is one of the better ones, but it's not for the beginner. You can also Google "bootable hard drive data recovery" and go through the various programs available. Most are for fixing drives that have crashed but aren't damaged physically. DriveSavers can get your data regardless if it's broken, been in a fire,
