I just got the driver for SimplePass installed and when I use the fingerprint reader it starts up an icon on the taskbar. How do I get SimplePass off my taskbar permanently ? I still want to use the finger print reader but don't want to have it on my task bar.

Are you using HP SimplePass version 6.0.100.244?
I installed this update and the SimplePass Icon kept placing itself on my taskbar on reboots after I have right clicked on the icon and selected "Unpin this program from taskbar".
Fortunately, I had kept the previous version 5.4.0.620 and deinstalled version 6.0.100.244 and installed using 5.4.0.620 version.
I noticed on AuthenTec's website that they have replaced 6.0.100.244 with 6.0.100.252 version.

Have you tried right clicking on the arrow and selecting properties or customize notification icon, it should be in one of them if you can turn it off, but they say you can't turn it off.

I deinstalled version 5.4.0.620 and installed the latest 6.0.100.252 version from the link I provided and I can report that I no longer have the SimplePass icon on the taskbar like I did with 6.0.100.244 version.
FYI: I am not using SimplePass for logins to sites. -
hey there Websurfer, thanks very much for the URL. It removed my existing SimplePass and installed the latest version without the icon on the taskbar. When I log in to Windows via finger print and go to the desktop the SimplePass icon is not there on the desktop. Thanks so much as I looked everywhere for a solution.

Glad to be of help. Hopefully HP will update their website to use the 6.0.100.252 version instead of the of the buggy version.
