Broken left hinge is a known problem in HP Pavilion dv9000/dv9100/dv9200/dv9400 notebooks.

HP was fixing this issue at no charge but not anymore. The warranty program has expired on May 31, 2009. You are on your own now but I can help.

I just finished step-by-step repair instructions.

Check it our here: How to replace broken left hinge in HP Pavilion dv9000

Make sure to use correct hinges. They are different for LCDs with single lamp and LCDs with dual lamp.

    Good luck!

Instead of buying a whole new bezel and hinge set, I am pretty sure you could grab a bottle of super glue or gorilla glue. I've used super glue on exercise equipment and it handles 50 pounds (of pressure [not permanent weight]) very well.

Super glue is like a buck or two depending on where you get it.

^^ My idea may sound stupid, but I am a very cheap and practical guy.

Super glue won't hold well on metal. Epoxy-based adhesive will. :D

Super glue holds very well on metal. I practically built my house out of super glue. :)

I've found that if you use a light dab of the stuff and rub the two metal components together it forms a VERY tight bond.

Yesterday I received a set of new hinges and top cover.
    Ordered both parts from SparePartsWarehouse.com
Each part cost me about $73+shipping.

Replaced both hinges as the right one was getting loose. The laptop looks like new.

Thank you so much for your help, i never knew i could actually order the hinges on their own. I have a DV2000 laptop with a broken hinge. It's the same concept right?

Yes, it is the same concept and here's some help for you.

Download service and maintenance guide for HP Pavilion dv2000 notebooks. It's a 8MB pdf file and might take some time to download.

Go to the Removal and Replacement Procedure and open Display Assembly chapter. It's on the page 145.

Follow the instructions. You'll be able to remove the display panel and replace hinges.

    Good luck.

Actually, hinges in a Pavilion dv2000 notebook are built a little bit different. Take a look at the picture below.

Here's my guide for removing LCD screen from HP Pavilion dv2000.

It might be not necessary to remove the speaker cover as I did with Pavilion dv9000 but you'll have to find which part of the hinge is broken.

Well...my issue was the availability of the part itself. I actually managed to take the screen out before, and see the hinge, and i didn't break it! woot!

But yeah, just knowing this was possible really helps.

    Thanks a lot everyone.

You can find hinge part numbers in the service manual and then google part numbers.

Quote from the manual for HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook:
