Go to Device Manager(Right click on My Computer-->Properties-->Hardware Tab-->Device Manager)

Then expand Monitor-->Double click Plug n Play-->Details Tab & you should see a drop down menu with Device Instance ID and in the white box below, the code names for the screen manufacturers will be listed...
    DISPLAY\ QDS005C\4&30EE6F99....

QDS, SEC, CMO, AUO, LPL are all short forms for Quanta Display Systems, Samsung Electronics, Chi Mei Optroelectronics, AU Optronics & LG Phillips repectively.

I believe this step is only valid if the system has Intel graphics cards.

You can use Sisoftware Sandra from http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_3264&langx=en&a= . The information is in the display & Display Adaptor Module, Monitors. Having said that, Sandra reports my monitor as Seiko Epson, but the properties in Device Manager, Monitors, give the SEC code. Since my computer is a Samsung X60, I'm willing to believe that SEC = Samsung Electronics, but what is the code that Windows uses for Seiko Epson?

    Its Simple!

That code is used when the screen manufacturer is either hidden(by the manufacturer) or is not recognisable. In such cases you will have to open up and look at the markings(labels) on the LCD.

Click on the Default Monitor not Plug and play one...

It's not hidden. Most of these laptops in stores have 2 plug and play monitors under Monitor icon and default monitor. So under Monitor there should be 2 Plug and play and 1 dafault monitor

Click on default monitor. Thats the one that shows the MFG.
