Is there any way to turn off coolsense 2.0? Only options I see are: coolest, performance, quietest.

It's not something you turn on and off -- it's a means of setting BIOS parameters. I suppose you can uninstall it, but I think all that will accomplish is forcing you to stick with the latest settings. Just set it on "Performance" and it won't have any effect on performance.

But it does. The fan profile SUCKS. It only ramps up to full once CPU reaches 85-90C and then once it's down to 80C the fan drops off drastically and temperatures rise to 85-90C again before it will go on full again. I just want to set fan speed to FULL manually somehow, and keep temps reasonable. It's not just this machine, but my second DV6z that this happens with, so it's an issue with the fan profile. The CPU performance starts to throttle at about 85C whether on its own or through CoolSense.

I agree with you, and that's my only complaint about this machine, the BIOS lockdown.

I don't think there's a way to change it, unfortunately.

Maybe if enough of us pester HP to add an option for FULL FAN then they will add it. I don't see any downside except for a noisy but cooler machine, and it'd be user selectable. If they can trust a user to select an existing coolsense setting, then why not full fan?

It hasn't worked for NIC whitelist removal, but maybe.

That's the other thing, that NIC whitelist sucks. I mean come on. NIC's are pretty generic. At least offer an Intel or a Killer NIC option.

This 1000 is just a piece of junk. I have a bad one, it frequently refuses to connect or drops randomly, and I am trying to replace it with a Killer 1102, but unless I use a modded BIOS I'm SOL. The only thing I can replace it with without modding the BIOS is another crappy 1000. And flashing the modded BIOS is proving to be a challenge in its own right.

I want an Intel 6230. Great card with 5GHz, which is what I want. I don't even want to go mucking about with the BIOS.

HP doesn't want us to have the ability to have full fan because i would imagine the bearings in the fan would go a lot quicker resulting in a dead fan, then you would be SOL.

Maybe setting CoolSense to Coolest Mode and Windows Processor Management Cooling to Active? It is a stretch, and I am pretty sure it is on that by default, but *shrug*. Worth a look.

Full fan wouldn't reduce the life of the fan more than 10% at worse even if it was full fan all the time, which I doubt users would do.

And if that's the case, let the user set the max fan speed at selectable temperatures, like 70C, 75C, 80C, 85C. The existing profile is stupid, period.

Now this i completely agree with. To be honest i think users should have complete control over a lot of stuff that is currently locked. Companies should have no right to lock out stuff unless it could seriously harm the product.

Yeah, I've tried lots of combinations with no luck. Coolest will ramp up the fan more quickly, but it also clocks down the CPU when temps approach 75C.

It just keeps the last profile activated. I've tried everything. However I did find this to be somewhat useful:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...xxx-series-owners-lounge-247.html#post7876517

Coolsense @ coolest, All P-states identical, Power profile at high performance. The fan will run faster sooner and won't throttle with all P-states the same and power profile with CPU min/max @ 100%.

I read that Cool Sense in coolest mode just stops it from turboing and the fan runs more often. I can't remember where I read it though.
